yay! 04 focus air filter waterlogged

Post by vr4 »

tis the season :D

1.3 diag. 1.5 to remove air cleaner assy, drain box, install new maf, reinstall.

the 04+ focus has a "non servicable" air cleaner. its a sealed housing so the air filter itself cant be changed. if it gets soaked (very easy to do as the air inlet is in the front lower grille. cold air intake!!!!) theres almost nothing you can do other than pray the filter itself will drain. its an oiled foam filter thats about 8 inches thick.

I am SO glad I can get into my filter.

Now if only I could find a dealership that can close this damned clamp on my intake hose. The local dealer told me that "it must be aftermarket." Ummm.... it's stock as stock can be? It's some weird clamp with a hook that goes over the top of a latch rather than your standard worm gear. Got any good ideas for me on how to do this without some special tool? :)

nope. but i do know the clamp youre talking about. LOL.

it shouldnt have come off to begin with. if it did they should have replaced the assy under warranty.

I swear I've seen a similar type of clamp used on CV boots. The tool is readily available...

My SVT is good, except for a very slight coolant leak under the thermostat housing. I've got the new aluminum plug with gasket and I'll probably swap it out when we have our next warm day.

most common leak point is the gasket/o-ring from the housing to the head.

youre on the right track with the other common leak area though ;)

I removed the t-stat housing a couple weeks ago. The head o-ring looks fine, and I could see a drip coming off the plug. I'm just hoping that plastic housing doesn't have a hairline crack.

I was just talking to Jeff about that. Doesn't that cost money to do so?
