Theoretically, how much could i make?

Post by Theo1 »

Parting out a 93 stealth es. the heads are toast and the clutch is done. The body and interior on the car are mint though, and everything besides the stuff i have mentioned is fine. The car also only has 75k on it, and some nice aftermarket wheels. Lets say if i pick this car up for $100, how much could I make?

Looking for a ballpark estimate here. I know its not going to be as much as if it was an r/t. but still

Thanks

if you have the know how and time then you could prob rebuild it for under 500 and then if I were you I would resell it for say 1500-2000 and pocket every bit of it. If not your going to have to go through the long time of parting it out, deal with lowballers, keep track of what goes to who, and just big pain in the ass.

Not worth parting out. You might get $1000 total from it, but that would be a long time of trying to sell crap parts on ebay. It's not like anyone really wants to spend much money for things like cloth stealth ES seats on ebay, ya know?

Only way you'd get more money is if you seriously stripped the entire car and then is it really worth all the tons of time it's going to take?

I too would fix it and sell. I only say that because I have the know how, but if you do too that would prob be your best bet.

Parting it out would, like others say, take some real motivation. But, in the end you're only spending $100 on it. So as long as you make $100 or more off the parts, then you'll turn at least a small profit. And if nothing else, you can take out some frustration on the teardown of the car.

Yeah, I think if i do get this car im going to fix it up and try to get a decent buck. Its in much better shape then the car pictured below and has much nicer aftermarket as well. So if i fix it, you think $3000 to $3500 would be asking too much? Car is a 1993 stealth es dohc and the exterior and interior is mint, better shape then the car below, but a stick. Looks almost identical too it. Right now the engine supposedly bent one valve(dont know how thats possible) has a bad clutch and needs some misc stuff.

Ok so i figure im going to need:
New heads, probably going to cost me $250 used
New clutch $250(conservative)
New shiftboot $20
Knob $20
Driver tailight ~$20
Complete stereo $100 - used factory

SO if i fixed all of this stuff do you think i could be looking at $3500? I woudlnt be in a hurry to sell it.

Btw heres the link to the ebay auction:

But the question is, do you have the know how and tools and even time to do it urself cause if u include labor, ur better off parting out.

I can install everything but the heads and clutch. BUt my dad is friends with a mechanic and cuts my dad deals big time. So i figure probably about $1000-$1500 for the repairs. Who knows, i might keep it as a back up plan incase the vr4 goes down.

Walk away. No one wants an ES to drive nor for parts.

Unless you want to fix it up and drive it around yourself, it'll be worth it.

Ok a little bit of an update. The guy found the title and said i can have it. So im going to get it towed home saturday. Ill take some pictures and post them and ill let you guys decide if its worth fixing up. Btw he said i could just have the car, but im going to throw him $100 for all the trouble he had to go through to find the title. So essentially ill only be paying $200 to get the car home (with towing) so there is no way i can loose money off of it. And another plus, it has a mint set of thoose snake eye lights that i have been looking for for about 3 fucking months now lol.

If i find out its worse than i thought ill just part it out and get some new tires for the vr4

Well new tires are gunna cost me exactly $605, so i deffinently think if the car is bad ill be able to make that back.

And another question, will a junkyard pick up the shell for free? And does it have to roll? Because the wheels on it are really nice and i dont want the to go to the junkyard with them. I think ill just look for 3 doughnuts

The junkyard around here will get it no wheels at all. They just hook a winch up to it and pull it onto the bed.

Ok, so i look at the car today and realize it is a SOHC      . The one good thing is the interior is mint and so is the body. So now, will it even be worth it to fix, i mean to fix a sohc is cheaper right?

No, it won't be cheaper to fix an SOHC...it'll just be a shittier car when you're done.
