1991 Honda Accord=Deathtrap
This car is a death trap. This car has tried to kill me 3 times now, and I've had enough.
1st. The cars automatic seatbelt fails and almost chokes me while im driving it.
2nd. The cars main relay goes and the car brakes down in the fast lane of I80.
And the last straw was today. I was going to drive my dad to the store. I pull out of the driveway, hit the gas, everythings fine. I go to let off the gas to stop, and the car keeps going at the same speed, the gas pedal is stuck. so i fly through this intersection about 30mph, luckily it wasnt busy. I hit the brakes and it slows the car down some, but it still keeps moving. So I say, you know what, fuck it and i dont even bother with the ebrake so i slow down as much as i could and put the damn thing in park. All i hear is clickkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk. and it finially stops. Then the thing got stuck in park, so we had to rock it to get it out.
This thing is a nitemare, i am done driving this. If it does it again, i WILL put it into a tree.

That sucks. +rep for a bad day.
Re: 1991 Honda Accord=Deathtrap
why didn't you just turn it off? It's so much easier on the car.

I would have turned it off, but I panicked because i just got my permit and august and was never expecting something like this to happen. Plus, it locks your steering

no joke. i once had a friend riding with me in the stealth who thought it would be "cool" to take the keys out of the ignition while driving. "you've got a turbo timer, the car will stay running". yeah, but the steering wheel locks. not cool on a city street.

yes, but if you turn the key off, then flick it back to "ON" and not the "START" increment of the ignition, it will keep your steering from locking up.
but i agree though, i probably would have shit a brick if that happened to me. what i dont understand is your brakes. if you stomped on that thing hard, accord or not, it should have at least ground you to a halt.

^exactly, ACC position not take the key completely out.
Just learn as much as you can can so not to panic
I would have been pulling up on the gas pedal first
Any way, deal with car issues if you don't have money for a brand new car under waranty.
I was thinking you were gonna say death trap in wreck cause its a Honda

problem is in a panic you dont think straight as was proven. had he turned it off he likely would have gone all the way.
ive been in situations a few times where the panic doesnt even faze me now.

I pulled up on the pedal and nothing happened. Just like when i hit the brakes it didnt fully stop the car

Re: 1991 Honda Accord=Deathtrap
First, you need to fix the car and make it road worthy.
Disable the auto seatbelt and only buckle it manually.
Replace or find the issue with the relay so it runs.
Find the reason the throttle stuck, clean the throttle body or carb, lubricate the linkage and cables, find the reason it happened.
As has been said, next time just put the car in nuetral, it may rev high so immediately click the key back one position and then forward again as soon as the engine dies. It should only take a split second and you wont have the steering lock on you. If you try to turn it back to ACC you stand a higher chance of locking the wheel as its one additional step to take.
The more you train mentally for an emergency the better you will respond when one happens.
