$10k Full Size Truck - Are there any good ones?

This is more of just a general question since holding off right now on buying something. Still browse craigslist for Chevelles, Avalanches, trucks, etc because if something comes up for the right price I would get it. Nothing has been a MUST HAVE deal yet though.

BUT, if you were to limit yourself to $10k (what I would feel comfortable paying cash for right now if I don't get the internship) and a full size truck as a daily driver, what would you get and why?

We talked about higher numbers before in other threads. Like limiting to $15k or $20k, but am curious if there is even anything out there good enough at $10k or less that you would trust to daily and put about 12-15k on a year for 5+ years.

You can also just tell me to fuck off with these threads but I am kind of bored right now. Should be doing school work, but meh, just not in the mood.

I bought mine for 8,200 with 100k. So they are out there. Will you get the extra gear, no. Will you get cooled seats? No. But will you get a vehicle that people have been using for a long time that will last a long time.

Bring me any vehicle, they will have problems with my driveway. Period. If a military Humvee does then guess what!!!

You got me on emissions....that TN doesn’t care about. I still want to figure out how to control those rear o2’s So I can gut the cats and the truck will sound a little meaner.

Point is 10k is out there. You just don’t get the newest and nicest stuff.

Its not cheaper if you have to replace a whole front end when others do not require it. One could argue a properly built front end wouldn't need replacement in the first place.

Show me a vehicle that has an unbreakable part and I will show you someone who has broke it.

Rack and pinion are great. Until you have to replace the entire thing instead of a 20-40 buck part.

I’m not missing your point. I’m well aware of my vehicles limits...I wouldn’t have bought it if I was worried about them. Your pointing out very small issues acting like others don’t have any. The avalanche is a solid platform for the cost.

Counter point buy a 3V 5.4 someone just had the timing kit done on it (with OE parts) and they are selling it because they are pissed at it.

I found one but the idiots used Dorman parts for the repair :d oh:

What reason for a Ford over a GM vehicle? Assuming in this price range looking at late 90s into early 2000s if staying around or under ~150k on them.

Asking for specifics.

Also, worth looking at diesels or no?

That tempts me too. I love the look of the older trucks (80s and older) but the next to no safety features makes it hard to want to daily one.

IMO they are better built than GM's of that era. It wasn't until the bankruptcy writing was on the wall that GM started building better vehicles.

Generally better built. Gm was a bit nicer but didn't hold up. I see many more ratty ass shitbox 15 year old gm trucks when compared to Fords. 10 years ago I would have said the Chevy's were better but they just hadn't fallen apart yet.

Also even though they're IFS the 97+ Ford suspensions are much better than gm.


Diesels...I can't comment on dirtymax other than the only reason the Allison holds up behind is the massive amount of torque management built into the controls. Start playing with tuning and remove that... They shit the bed quick.

Suspensions are still an issue. Essentially a light duty suspension with an even heavier engine.


Powerstroke... Avoid the 6.4 period. 6.0 is a good engine after everything gets done to it. Not worth it unless it's already been done and they're tired if dumping money in it
