Quick 3s wiring question

So, as most know I am in the midst of reviving my car, except in a new (to me) chassis. I am putting the SOHC into a 91 SL for the time being until I can get the TT engine built. This resulted in a few wiring variations that I figured I'd run into.
One that I just need verification on has to do with the oil pressure gauge. As you should know on the DOHC the wiring for the oil pressure gauge is in the engine harness. On the SOHC the wiring for the oil pressure gauge is in the body harness near the AC clutch wiring.
This leaves me with no wiring to go to the gauge sensor. I'd like to have the factory gauge function (as well as it could) while I have the SOHC in the car.
My question now is couldn't I just run a wire from the sensor and tap into the harness for the combination gauge unit to make the gauge work? After digging into the electrical manual I found that is a yellow/red wire that would need tapped.
Am I crazy or would this work?
