So, as most know I am in the midst of reviving my car, except in a new (to me) chassis. I am putting the SOHC into a 91 SL for the time being until I can get the TT engine built. This resulted in a few wiring variations that I figured I'd run into.
One that I just need verification on has to do with the oil pressure gauge. As you should know on the DOHC the wiring for the oil pressure gauge is in the engine harness. On the SOHC the wiring for the oil pressure gauge is in the body harness near the AC clutch wiring.
This leaves me with no wiring to go to the gauge sensor. I'd like to have the factory gauge function (as well as it could) while I have the SOHC in the car.
My question now is couldn't I just run a wire from the sensor and tap into the harness for the combination gauge unit to make the gauge work? After digging into the electrical manual I found that is a yellow/red wire that would need tapped.
Am I crazy or would this work?

Re: Quick 3s wiring question
I know nothing of this, but when I was reading I thought of exactly what you said, well just run a wire over to it.
Hopefully someone can weigh in that knows more than me on that subject.

Re: Quick 3s wiring question
That should work just fine.
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

Re: Quick 3s wiring question
Thanks Jeff. I was 99% sure it would, just wanted to verify.
I'll probably do some additional tracing to see where I can tap in the easiest tomorrow. Then I'll figure out how I want to run it to keep it clean.
Once I get it started I'll let you know if it works.

Re: Quick 3s wiring question
You should be able to pull the glove box assembly out and tap into one of the dash connectors on the far right of the dash. Pin 8 on connector D-15 here.

Re: Quick 3s wiring question
That's exactly what I planned on doing after I looked at the one dash I have in the basement. Thanks again man. Merry Christmas.

Re: Quick 3s wiring question
Ok, so I have another question regarding my bastardized swap.
Again, a 2g SOHC engine, harness and ECU in a 1G chassis. As most know the 1g's had the coolant sensors in the radiator, where 2g was in the thermostat housing.
The issue I discovered was that the harness to plug into the main fan requires use of the 1g fan (of which I do have one) However, I never realized it also has the wiring for the radiator style coolant sensors.
My question is do I need to use the 1g style sensors in conjunction with the 2g ones? Can I just tap the harness for the 1g sensors into the 2g sensors in the engine harness?
I'm a little tired so if I am not making sense just tell me and I will try to explain clearer tomorrow.
