Same class or same money
If the Humvee sells I will be looking at a new wrx. What else is in the wrxs class or around the same money, low 30s, for new or very lightly used?
Must have mid to high 20s mpg. Must be fun to drive. Prefer highly for awd.

Re: Same class or same money
Used Golf R is all I can think of that is that price and AWD used. But I wouldn't get a used VW without a good warranty.
Is mitsubishi even still in the car game anymore?
Fun to drive and AWD for $30k really limits you. Not sure where used AWD mercs sit right now but I assume out of the price range.

AWD kind of limits the cars. New Altima, Legacy, other and other that you're looking at luxury cars. A4, 3 Series, Q50, etc.
If you are also okay with a small CUV it opens up a lot more options, Forester, Outback, CX-5, Rav-4, CR-V, Edge, etc.

Re: Same class or same money
It can be a small suv as long as it fits awd and fuel.
Yeah it needs to be awd as Im getting rid of my main 4x4 and I need to get to work.

Focus RS can also be had for low 30s slightly used.
You can always get a Escape with the 2.0T (same engine as Focus ST), or an Edge Sport (2.7L EcoBoost with AWD).

If you're going Edge, I'd wait until next year when the Edge ST and the refresh comes out.
Although you're at the end of the MY run for this gen Edge.

I can not find a daily driver, been looking as hard as chris has. Driven 3.5 hours away to buy stuff and it didnt pan out. Basically Im sick of looking and finding nothing. Literally nothing I want in my price range and my crv is at 218k and I dont trust it anymore. So at the end of the day if I want something nicer than my budget a toy has to go.

Ive been looking escapes heavly for a while. If the 8th digit in the vin is a 9 its the 2.0t. Seems every time I find one with 30-40k miles in my price range they are sold before I get there. Happened 3 times locally and I havent found anymore.
Wonder what an edge sport runs.

Yeah, but you've been looking at Escapes in the $15k range. Upping that budget to low 30s, basically allows you to get a brand new one with the 2.0T engine if you want.
Edge Sports look to be around mid 20's to low 30s depending on mileage and equipment (basically Nav package or not).

True. I wonder if the 2.7 will have issues like the 1.6 did starting out.

2.7L EcoBoost has been out for a long time now in the Fusion and Edge Sports.

Re: Same class or same money
Edge no, Explorer yes
Re: Same class or same money
Some incite from someone who had to work with the 1.6t.
That engine wasn't really meant to be turbo'd, and why they quickly discontinued it for the 1.5t after they had the issues. The Edge sport is high 20s to mid 30s, and uses the 2.7t from the Focus ST (I think).
But I would wait for next year since they're doing a MY refresh.

What Chris said. Edge (built on Fusion platform) got the 2.7L TT. Explorer (built on Taurus platform) got the 3.5L TT.

It's the same engine and drive train as the Fusion Sport not the Focus ST. It's also based on the 2.7 EcoBoost in the F150.

Re: Same class or same money
Been thinking a lot about this lately.
WRX- pros: fun, looks great, will enjoy for a long time.
Cons: not a lot of ground clearance, while plenty of room inside not as much as small SUV's I've been looking at.
Forester- Pros: ground clearance, space
Cons: Deff dad's vehicle, worse gas mileage, boring.
Main thing is ground clearance, the honda accord we had was low and the WRX is no lower than other vehicles but the honda was very particular on how you had to pull in the driveway. It was a pain. I assume the WRX would be the same and thus for the next 8-10 years it would be a pain to leave and come home in the wrx. But I would enjoy driving it when I dont know if I would enjoy driving the forester. But the forester would give me room to grow as a family and would be easier to take on trips.
Kind of torn. All a moot point as the humvee hasn't sold yet.

What Forester are you looking at? The 19 has significantly better gas mileage than the WRX. 26/33 for the Forester and 21/27 for the WRX.
