gasless welder

I want to buy a welder, nothing for anything big but more for tacking stuff together, maybe exhaust but small stuff. Anything big I will take to someone who is really good. Can someone express a good gasless welder that is single phase?

I've got a Lincoln Electric Weld Pak 4200(?)HD. Around $400 at Home Depot if I remember right.

It'll do MIG and gasless, depending on which wire you install. It's a pretty nice setup. I even used it to tweak my stainless ATR downpipe.

I'd buy something that at least supports a MIG add-on, even if you don't plan on using it right away. Why spend the money twice if you decide to upgrade in the future?

Drop the $60 or so on an auto darkening helmet from Harbor Freight. It's SO worth it.

Yeah I already have already used an auto dark helmet, dont know how anyone welds with out one.

pretty much...I've found that lift and nod method is much easier with a wire feed welder than a stick welder.

Hobart makes a good unit too, can be had from tractor supply center (if they are in your neck or the woods. i personally prefer stick welding only because that what works best in the stick on a service call, but in a garage a mig welder is the way to go

Honestly for just messing around I've heard decent things about Harbor Freight. My dad swears by Miller but those are a lot more expensive.

I enjoy mine, I only really tac things together and welded a hole shut but it’s worked perfect.

I was going to recommend the first one you linked. I just bought one a couple months back, but haven't used it yet. Really got it to toss in the monti for odd jobs or wheeling. Its very small, and has good reviews.

Being flux core you wont need any gas, but it will spit some, making welds look less presentable, but nothing overly ugly. Honestly its the easiest and quickest way to learn. You only have 2 variables, wire speed, and current which they even give you a cheat sheet with the machine.

Welding is really pretty easy, but feel free to hit me up with any questions.

I'd go with the first one simply because it is 110v.

Wasn't sure if first or second because second says it can do stainless. I've got stainless exhaust on my truck and stuff.

I do have a 240 in the house, but only 2. One for the dryer and one for the oven.
