We are looking at a 1994 VW Jetta III GL with the 2.0 4cyl to replace my wife's 87 Nova now that it will cost more to fix than the car is worth. The Jetta has 136,000 miles on it and everything is really nice shape except this:
He said he will sell it to us for $850 (was listed for $1000 but we talked him down).
Ouch, that looks like shit. I'm going to assume that the trunk leaks when it rains, and if it doesn't it's going to be leaking soon. That is going to suck, especially when it starts smelling of mildew really bad.
I've never been a fan of newer (anything newer than 80s hahah) VWs at all, but I guess if your budget is sub $1000 you don't have much choice
Maybe find something of the Japanese variety with a blown headgasket or something that isn't too hard to fix for very minimal money?
Ya, I keep pushing the Jeep thing on her, but she wont budge. We are looking at Civics and Camrys right now. Nothing under $1000 though that seems worth it yet. There is one camry for $650...runs good and that, but it has 238,000 miles if not more i think.
a bike will probably go through the cabin of that jetta. the rust will have almost certainly compromised the integrity of the passenger compartment, especially something that bad.
id pick the camry over that pos.

So far our choices are a high mileage camry with nothing wrong that we know of, or a not so high, but still high mileage camry with a bad CV joint. About 50k difference in mileage. What would you chose?
We have been looking through the Madison, Appleton, and Milwaukee craigslists. We are trying to find one under $1000 if possible cause we are REALLY tight on money right now.
