Put on some bed rails and a Bedrug liner. The rolling tonneau cover was awesome over the winter for leaving skis in the back and such.

How do you like the rug? Debated on that or a spray in liner.

I had a rolling cover on my 2nd silverado and a regular one on my first one. Debating on a tri fold one on my current one.

Right now I only have a rubber bed mat.

The rolling cover is way more versatile and easier to deal with than a tri-fold.

But harder to remove if you need the whole bed

The rolling cover I am thinking of is the soft cover that just rolls up. I didn't even really think about the "window blind" style.

Soft covers work just as well and rolls the best.

I wouldn't consider them secure though since you can easily cut them open with a knife.

I love the rolling cover. You can lock it at any point to help hold cargo in place, which is nice. Secure so you can put most anything in the back and not worry about it.

Our truck came with a spray-in bedliner. It sucks because things slide around on it very easy, and it gets scratched up. The bedrug is nice because it isn't as slippery, and the bottom is padded so that you can kneel on it if you need to move things around in the bed. I probably wouldn't do it if I didn't have a decent cover on the bed, but for an enclosed storage space, the bedrug works good. It is attached with Velcro strips. If you have a spray-in liner, there's an additional kit of industrial-grade Velcro and 3M adhesion promoter pads, which I recommend using one or two of those kits to get it in solid. I also went to Home Depot and got a 30 ft long roll of 2" wide industrial Velcro and used that instead of the skinnier strips that come with the bedrug. That way slight misalignments of the velcro don't reduce the holding power.

If someone wants into the bed, they are going to get in. A hard cover is not going to stop them.

It'll take them a lot more effort to get a slatted aluminum cover off than to tear open a soft cover.

Anything is better than nothing though. If they can't see it, they won't want it.

How about just don’t keep big valuables in the bed?

This. With no regard for damage I can get into a hard cover just as quick as a soft cover. Just look at all the converters threat get stolen in less than 20 seconds.

But... Can't see it, won't be tempted to go after it. The likelihood of someone breaking in just to see if something is under there is slim unless they watched you put stuff there.

In the winter, we go skiing often enough that I'll leave our skis and boot bags in the back of the truck. That's like $3000 worth of ski equipment.
