Nah. His Jeep would break down on the way and he wouldn't have the Kenworth to tow it due to bad MPG.

Don’t forget the Volt! That would get him there but consequently his sore back and asleep legs might give you a window of escape.

Yeah I regularly see trucks with 105,500 on the door. Talked to one of the drivers once and he said he just got done with a load at 130k with special permits.

Looks like 6500-6800 for a v8 double cab

I'd rather have something I don't need than need something I don't have. Hence the towing capacity. Especially if we get a camper in the next year or two.

As for time frame, thinking around May I'd purchase something. Going to daily the jeep for the rest of this internship, then in December, see how I feel, and then sell the Volt. Save that money until may when the soul lease ends. Then either use the money to buy out the soul, or give the jeep back to the wife and buy a truck.

I assume GMC would have the same issues as Chevy from the same time frames?

Yes same trucks.

Just wasn't sure if the GMC tended to be "better made" since supposedly they are "higher end".

For me it goes as follows:

Looks and comfort - GMC Sierra
Reliability - Tundra
Middle of pack - Ford F150/250

Ford seats destroy my back after a long time, but the trucks are more reliable than the GM. I sometimes have been driving a ford for 5-6 hours a day and by the end of the day my back kills me depending on which one I drive. The 2013 F150 hurts the most. I also drive a 05 F250 and that one doesn't hurt my back as much. Not sure if it is something I would eventually get used to or not.

I have owned a few Silverados but never drove a Tundra before.

Question on Fords.

Current gen I'd probably get the 5.0 (2011 or newer}, but if I go previous gen, what engines are good and what should I avoid? Both gas and diesel.

Earlier 2v 5.4s and 4.6s had issues blowing out plugs. The early 3V ones had plugs that would get stuck and can have timing guide and or cam phaser issues.

They got better in 08.

So if I were to get a F150 with the 5.4, look at 08 and newer? How are they with higher mileage? What about a f250? Any engine to avoid with that?

From what I know the 5.4 is very stout beyond what I mentioned. The updated heads resolved the spark plug issue. And they updated the phasers and timing guides around that time too. When shopping for one insist on you starting the truck from cold. That's when you'll hear the noise from the phaser or the timing guides.

I had one of those as a work truck. Its gutless compared to the 5.0 and the trans likes to hunt for shifts. If you were looking at Ford F150 I would keep to 2011 and newer. Lots of very noticeable upgrades all around.

The 5.4/4.6 and 6spd combo isn't that bad. It's not as nice as the 5.0 but it's definitely serviceable especially if you aren't pushing max payload/towing frequently.

My dad's 5.4+6spd Expedition with 3.31s feels much more spritely than my Sequoia :d ontknow:
