I kind of figured that honestly. They will probably do a hybrid type one soon though.

The information I've seen basically says that won't happen this generation, so at the soonest the next STI will be here is 5 years

yep, if they bring it back. subaru has had a ton of success in their main niche lately, i have a feeling we wont see it for a while and if anything it will be lame in comparison to its former self.

Evo died a decade ago. Just a matter of time.

Wasn't there a dude named ByeByeSTI on the forums? How prophetic.

The Evo died for drastically different reasons... Mainly Mitsubishi Motors was/is a horrible company.

Yes there was.

The STi died likely because vehicles like the ascent pushed Subaru's CAFE numbers too low to support a low volume vehicle with terrible mpg. The STi transmission is great for performance but it's short gearing and massive weight kill MPG.

If you read the article I posted that's what it pretty much says. Regulations killed it.

Yeah Subaru doesn't have any fully electric vehicles (yet) and only one hybrid (I think) to bring up their overall company MPG.

Also, the WRX itself was not that far away from the STi in terms of performance now anyway. So it just doesn't make business sense to make a niche car, when the "everyday" model is close in performance.

The letter from Subaru all the articles are referring to says that.

Yes and no. Street performance and normal numbers used to judge performance it is. Actually usage on the track there was still a pretty decent margin. Car and Driver's Lightening Lap shows that.

Right, but outside of the center diff, and shorter geared transmission, you could probably get a WRX close to STi performance on track with aftermarket suspension and other modifications no?

Front, center and rear differential, but Yes you can swap over all the STi suspension bits on the 15-21 cars. Prior to that you could but it also required the knuckles, which requires the axles which requires the diff and transmission.... There are of course more and better aftermarket options for all gen wrxs

Yeah so essentially, you could more or less "build" a 5th gen STi from a WRX if you wanted too. Even still, I would say most STi owners never go to the track anyway, so the performance benefit over the WRX probably isn't there for most people

Not gonna disagree with that

I bet there are folks at GM that made the argument to not make the higher end Corvette's for the same reasons.

I feel like everyone always talks about wanting the top end model, but no one really buys one, especially compared to the base model. Like everyone was so happy they brought the RS to the US, and they sold 30,000 over 3 years

I bet it's similar with the Audi RS6 too.
