Radar dectectors

Post by DCIV »

Does anyone run them anymore? I did in high school and honestly thought they had died out but just had Facebook give me an ad for one. Did they ever advance them more? Are they worth a flip?

I have several in the cars. The higher end units work great for my area. Most police still use K or Ka band around here, so you just dial them in and drive.

I really dont drive as fast as when i was younger, but for long road trips I will use them as old habits tend to surface.

I just run Google maps while driving. Usually pretty good. Plus I've learned where they normally hide out on my normal routes. I also don't drive like an asshole so...

Mine saves my ass all the time. I run waze too, IMO you really need both. My recommendation is the uniden r3 or r7. I have an old valentine one currently though.

Currently have a passport max. It's ok. Better than many but definitely not the best. Uniden r7 will be next if the r9 takes too long.

Li drive too slow to bother with them. My 5mph over relegates me to the slow lane here, and I still get dumbasses acting like I'm doing 45 in a 65 behind me.

This.

I've only ever been pulled over for speeding once. 50 in a 35 at 4 in the morning running late to work 14 yrs ago.

I might hit 5-10 mph over if it's with the flow of traffic. Otherwise I generally stay in the right lane and go maybe 5 mph over.

I've hit faster but once I realize that I am I slow down. Not worth the risk to my life or others.

That said I do occasionally push it, but it's very rare. I think I might have hit 80 once in the truck. Never went over 75 in any of my jeeps. Hit 80s in the volt. Mustang I hit the 100s but that was in California on i5 with no one around.

Only other vehicle I ever had over 100 was the VR4. I was also young and dumb.

Have they gotten any better though? Minus adding gps so they don’t have false hits, are they really that much better than 10yrs ago.

Yeah, detection range and false alert rejection is much better.

I don't use one. I don't go more than 4-5 over every anymore (unless I'm passing on a 2 lane). I got a ticket for doing 22 over, and I've been good since.
