That is pretty cool. Though it highlights the difference in tax payer money for these types of programs from Japan to the US.
Japan R&D budget, $556 million.

US R&D budget for the f22 - $64.5 BILLION

Yeah, we could actually afford a lot for citizens with better allocation of our tax dollars.

No need to raise taxes for any proposals that are made.

To be fair they asked for $556 million for R&D just for 2021. The plane if developed won’t be out for 15 years. It’ll be billions in R&D by then, and even then I bet it won’t come close to the F22 in terms of stealth capability. Also the F22 design was first started in the 1980s way before computer design etc. and even though being first designed in the 80s is still 1000 times more stealthy than Russia’s SU-57 that entered service in 2020. Russia’s plane cost 8-10 billion to develop, so for 6-8 times the cost we got a fighter that is 1000x’s more stealthy.

The US originally wanted 750, but the capabilities of the F22 and F35 are far beyond what our potential advisories have even today. The amount of F16 (1,078), F15 (485), F18 (532 plus 96 on order), and F35s (239 plus we have 1534 on order for the air force, 18 plus 532 on order for the Navy, and 81 for the USMC), it doesn’t matter if Russia/China have stealth aircraft, they don’t have enough missiles to take out all of them. Plus the F35 is at least 20 times more stealthy than Russia’s SU57, and on par with China’s J20. So we should be good

I too am not sold on it. I think even the air force isn’t completely sold since I think they just ordered some more F15s lol

We would’ve been better off if we’d have made 3 planes for the different types of services instead of a one thing that does it all well, but not anything great (coincidently not unlike the 3S itself haha).
