Going back into storage mode I think. No real need to drive it. Will pull the battery and put it on a maintainer. Then maybe 1x a month drive it a few miles.

Other than that it's going to start sitting again I think.

Struggled to start yesterday. Went to put it on the charger/maintainer but maintainer won't power on. Ordered a new one. Hopefully it is just a weak battery from sitting.

Yea a proper charger should keep her up.


On a side note I haven't driven my XJ in a couple years now, but the wifes family as well as friends keep asking us if we want to sell it. Not sure why but that jeep gets more spectator love than any other of my cars.

Honestly I think it’s a perfect first kids car. Not enough power to get in trouble, safe, and can modify to each person pretty easy.

I would have to agree with that. Wifes bro is in his 20s and the family friends wanted it for their daughters, lol. She used to teach a youth group of girls and they all loved it.

I partially thought about selling it, but nobody is likely going to pay what i want for it. She aint no jalopy.

As for spectator ya, had someone stop by the house to pick up some stuff I sold and they were all excited about it when they saw it.

Safe enough. Big long and light with airbags for the front. Better than most of my Mitsubishi’s

Read something a while back basically saying anything built before 07 isn't 'safe' basically you're significantly more likely to be injured or killed in something built before 07 than after.

I do remember something to those reguards when they crashed an old school boat of a car to the same crash tests today and the people were very badly hurt. New crumple zones are very helpful to absorb the energy instead of putting it through the vehicle to whatever absorbs it....people.

Depends on location. Out here, easily 6-7k +. I've been offered 8 for mine. Out east, similar one maybe 3-4k at best. I paid 4k for mine 13 yrs ago in Wisconsin

There is always a good deal to be had, but nice stock ones are at least $6k plus. With the lift and tires im seeing 8-15k locally. Not sure they get those numbers but nice XJ's are starting to get harder to find.

I think we can all agree that safety standards have been improved since then, but Airbags are much better to have than without.

Been on a maintainer since this post. Fired right up tonight when I had to move it. Might take it to the gym this weekend. Put a good 50 miles on it. Hasn't put more than a few since April.

But it has developed a knocking / ticking at idle from what sounds like behind the dash/firewall area. Patched up some exhaust leaks from shitty clamps (replaced them last night) and sealed up seams with exhaust permatex sealer. So had to let it run for a while after to help cure. When I went to turn it off is when I heard it. Wonder if connection at exhaust manifold is loose or if it cracked again already. Or maybe something is just loose and rattling in the dash. I'll have to take a look and see what I can find.
