Jeep, no start

Post by TajMan »

87 Comanche 4X4 4.0L, needed head rebuilt, as far as known it was last driven to where it sat.

I just finished head rebuild, got it all assembled and a new battery put in. Turn key to ACC position and some stuff lights up (battery working), but then I turn the key ALL the way and the starter does NOT try to turn the motor over. Can't hear any click or anything.

What to troubleshoot this no start issue now? I had a new engine wiring harness to put in (not as hacked looking as old one), but didn't think THAT was the problem right now, thought it ran-still electrically fine before it sat.

My buddy had a problem like this with his 94 XJ. Turned out to be a bad neutral sensor on the shifter/ tranny. Its worth a look.

J/K I love you mitsubishi :D

Starter tested ok at Autozone.

My problem is further up somewhere in that electrical system.

You were smart on the Jeep tip! (auto tranny on the 4.0 engine tip)

Neutral Safety Swith cleaning fixed it.
Hasn't started yet but it turns over now. I'll address the spark plug wire routing and 2 year old gas tomorrow, should be running soon easy now.
