Yea, Ive noticed that its just been going downhill...post a thread with a genuine problem now and you will be lucky to get one response, but post one lets say last year...people would be replying left and right helping you. I believe it will only get worse, but I believe in my heart that it will rise again...someday :( .

agreed with all of you.

its not the platform, its not 3si, its not our cars. its the damn kids who dunno anything about cars, and go on asking about what color shift boot adds more horsepower.

come'on!, learn before you post. but then again in today's day and age. what do you expect lol.

all i can say, is for those of us who appreciate the platform as much if not more than i do, good luck to you all and myself. our cars will last because we know what the hell we are doing.

that's why i need to get my car fixed and done in the next year or two
because pretty soon, the car's platform is going to die and these companies will slowly but surely move away from the 3s or die.

On the Internet they say, "You never get this! You never get this!" But then one day they all met in Cali and they get this.

I have to say. I dont post on 3SI anymore. I had a problem and I posted it here. I search 3SI and always start at the last page of results and work backwards. Just proves it used to be better.

Down the rabbit hole we go.... http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php ... 5&posted=1

Its okay. In 20 years our cars will be all but extinct. Probably still not worth a lick of money, but good running ones will be ultra rare, and beautiful.

From 3si:
New users come to this forum to learn about their car and get help. They look to the older members for information. They trust the older members to provide good information.

What some of you don't see is thread on other forum that proclaim "Proof positive the 3S platform is on the downward spiral". Created by the very people that we posting in that thread and using that thread as proof.

Threads like that have no place in the general forum.
That's the current theory, but there are others. Alan is getting up there in years - this may be simple dimensia.

I don't believe I ever linked the " Switch " thread in here, Alan.

Edit : In fact, I'm actually a little upset, seeing as how that " Switch " thread not only was NEVER linked in this thread, it was never even MENTIONED.

Guess I'm not the only one with a gift for words, Alan. Thanks for that.

That timing belt thread scared me. Most of those people have been on a few years and you would expect more from them. I wish they would have just said search newb as he could have found what was needed.

Could somebody summarize this thread real briefly? I don't believe I've seen it.

basically
Broken User: I take the belt off and then it hits me, I should have aligned the marks first! bah. Anyway, now how do I align the crank/cams properly without hurting valves?

non-Helpful A (05 member): It all depends where in the cycle the engine is sitting at. How close is it to get the crank mark to line up at TDC? If it is close, turn the engine by the crank slowly, then turn the cam gears so that they stay in the same sequence. You can do this until everything is lined back up at TDC.

It is also fairly hard to bend your valves. You will feel a good deal of pressure if your pistons begin to start making contact with the valves. Make sure you take out your spark plugs because they will cause resistance as you rotate the crank.

non-Helpful B (99 member): If you haven't moved anything why not put the belt back on and align it?
You wouldn't have to fuss with the tension for this, just snug the tensioner pulley up tight and gently rotate it into position by hand.
Pulling at least the front three plugs to relieve compression will make it a lot easier.
