Almost bought a c5 z06 today.

Post by -that- guy »

So, my buddy Aaron asks me if I want to go with him to the dealership today, because he's looking to sell his C6 and he knows I want a vette. So I'm browsing the selection, there were 8 C6's, 1 C6 z06, 7 C5's, and 2 C5 z06s.

I said I wanted to test drive the '03 z06. The salesman said "absolutely." It probably helped that I had my vr4 and my buddy showed up in his vette. Anyways, he says that he will drive first, and I can drive back. We get in the car, and he says "I am driving first because I'm about to do things in this car that I don't want you to get a ticket for."

Now I have two friends with corvettes, one has the C6 and the other has an '01 z06. The salesmen drives to the hills. Why you ask? Because he said "everyone knows corvettes are fast, not everyone knows how well they handle. I'll show you what I learned at the corvette driving school." So we proceed to take turns recommended for 30mph at about 75-80, with no fuss. It was awesome. I didn't know they could handle like that. Then I drove, and thanks to my monster clutch on the vr4, it took me a few minutes to get used to this one. But holy shit, the torque was incredible. That's what sold me right there, the straight get up and go.

Anyways, we start dealing, and he got my requested payment close, but not close enough. So I walked. It was harder to walk away from that car than it was to walk away from my wife for the first time. I am going to sell the vr4 now though, and buy an 02 or 03 z06. I would ask if anyone here wants to buy it, but I'm not allowed to on bawc. :p ;)

Soon I will have my corvette.

I'm glad another one sees the light. The Z06 is an amazing car, handles great!

It will handle MUCH better with some not stock rubber on it and '04 Z06 shocks on it. Big improvment in the shocks and not-stock tires.

Put a borla quad-tip and get the ECU changed with LS1 edit and you're good to go for another 50HP :)

If I don't get a C6 Z06 next, I'll pick up another C5 Z06 like my old one

Apparently C6Z shocks bolt right on and are a nice upgrade too.

Great to hear, I know, never driven one though.

As far as I can guess my Conquest will end up with a centrifugal supercharged LS1 (some day).

Exactly why I want to sell my car and pick up an 06 GTO. a C5 ZO6 would obviously work too :)

GTO is too heavy...gotta go 'vette! Unless you need 4 seats :)

GTO's are a bargain though at the prices they go for.

GTO would make for a great year-round car with a set of winter tires. I seriously considered selling my Stealth and just getting a GTO. Instead I decided to get the Focus and still have a 'toy' car.

I love the C5 Z06. Whenever my brother brings his in town, I always make sure I get to drive it. The instant torque is an awesome thing, especially in a 3200 pound car. Soooo much different feeling than a 3/S :p

I don't mind the interior at all actually. Not overly complex by any means, but not overly plain either.

As far as materials and fit and finish go, it looks like it was made by Fisher Price

Honestly though, I have to say I was more comfortable during my 10 minute test drive of Ox's C5 than I was in a whole day of driving a C6. The interior in the C6 is definitely 'nicer' but the layout and design of the C5 just seems to fit me better.

Still, both cars could use a major seat upgrade. If I ever manage to get a C5, the first thing I'm doing is tossing the seats.

How much was it going for?

Such a bargain for what get. You see tons of them for sale in the corvetteforums from 25k to 35k for a very nicely modded one. So tempting.

I really don't like the interior on Corvettes either, I don't know what it is. An ex-coworker had a C6, I drove it a few times (after some clutch adjustment here too, it's so light) I love the torque, and handling, but the interior just seems so plain.

The interior material seems a little cheap, but not nearly as bad as older models. I think the gauge cluster is great too, much better than most cars.

Seats are horrible...and getting an upgrade is difficult, 95% of seats don't fit :(

I like the gauge cluster but the rest of the interior looks like it came out of a 94 sunfire
