Ughhh..... WHY???? - NBC working on Top Gear remake for the States

The show is brilliant, why not actually air the original on NBC??? I think it would, for the most part, translate fine - worse case scenario they edit it some, however, I think a remake is nuts.
Article:
----------------------------------------------------------------
Bionic Woman. Knight Rider. And now....Top Gear? NBC, America's remake network, has ordered a pilot of an Americanized Top Gear. Expect to see all the usual Top Gear conventions, including three presenters; a masked Stig-like driver; a private test track; taping in a hangar before a live audience; and (probably D-List) celebs driving midsize cars. Unfortunately, you won't see the program's British hosts, Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond. And this is where it gets dicey. You see, those guys are the reason Top Gear is what it is. They're clever and witty, and they endear themselves to gearheads with segments like Clarkson's hilarious Peel P50 "review" (
click here). NBC's going to have a hard time finding US hosts who can replicate that vibe without being relentlessly annoying in the process. As BBC remakes go, we truly hope that a US-flavored Top Gear succeeds like The Office, but we're concerned that it might just turn into another Coupling. Thanks to all who sent tips.

SBS(?) is doing an Australian version too.
I have a lot more faith in the Aussies than I do in NBC

Given the amount of anti -us and anti-american car commentary you can't be suprized that NBC would want and americanized version.
All three networks have shows that are british remakes.

Hmmmm. I heard we were doing something. It's a dumb idea all round. You wont have the characters of the original. Those three guys are what make the show. I predict failure in multiple countries.

I thought of that too, that's why I said they could always edit it.

Bingo. The amount of crying and whining about the US remarks and the lack of straight line performance talk would kill the show.

Any show that bashes the corvette, mustang, or viper is not going to fare well in the US.

An American Top Gear might get the chance to run the Saleen S7. That alone could make it worth watching an episode or two.

Also expect to see a stupid amount of flashy lights, dumb bimbos wearing next to nothing, camera scenes that last no longer than .5 seconds each, and a ridiculous amount of over-acting and melodramatic voice-overs.

Not all of that is bad.
