No BOOST?!??! WTF!!!!

Post by I am Me N U r U »

It's not boosting. we're getting like 3psi. at first Hans thought it was a bad turbo, swapped the turbo, no change. then Hans found that the PCV valve was backwards. yea, backwards, it was assembled wrong. weird. so we replaced that. no boost. swapped wastegate acuators, no boost.

what the hell else could it be?

anyone have any ideas? I'm "wholesaleing" the car to a dealer tomorrow morning, and we need to fix this tonight *sigh*

Major boost leaks? Car staying in full load? Bad boost gauge?

stock boost solenoid might be bad? When I bought my 2G Stealth originally it would only make 5PSI on an aftermarket gauge, put in a home built MBC in place of the stock solenoid and it worked fine.

but wouldn't it still get the 6psi wastegate pressure even if the boost solenoid was bad?

Mine got 5PSI all day on WG and she said "like 3PSI" so maybe she just glances at the gauge and figured "it's not near 10, it's real low"

Just a guess... :)

we pressure tested all of that, popped one hose, fixed it, has 2 small leaks near the rear turbo, fixed those hoses, and nothing else.

hans is flooring it, and it's just sluggish.

it's reading like 3psi on the stock boost gauge, even after replacing the rear turbo with one we KNEW was good... so it should be at LEAST reading 7psi (halfway).

He's datalogging it, and said the mass air flow sensor is reading low, we replaced the sensor, nothing changed.

I believe he replaced the stock boost solenoid also, didn't change anything. Hans is 100% stumped. we're going to try disconnecting the catback, and see if maybe there's something that's clogging, and causing it to run like this... we're not really sure what else to try

it's not even near 1/2 on the stock gauge.

when I was running wastegate pressure, the stock gauge still pegged the top. this is like, not even a fart on the gauge.

ok, so when we pressure test it, the entire engine is getting pressurized??? not good?? what could cause that? it's not the pcv valve, we replaced it with one we know is good... what else?

I say go over everything again in case. I am not known for being a good mechanic but usually double checking and taking a step back helps me figure out things. Check all connectors / hoses again, can never hurt to double check. All else fails kick the tire! :D

Good luck!

It's like when I lose something..I find it eventually. Just not when I need it at that moment.

we double checked. blocked off everything so it should only be pressurizing teh turbos/IC's, etc. and the engine is still getting pressure. So... we're replacing the front turbo tomorrow. Hopefully it's a bad seal. *sigh*

I'll update tomorrow, hopefully with some good news.

I did a quick google search..

http://www.turbododge.com/forums/f4/f14 ... sting.html

http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic302794.htm

Pay no mind to the dodge part but it may help throw in some more helpers..

Hopefully it helps or if not someone can reference to it later on =o)

Edit: Added another link.

I once heard a ricer say that his turbo wanst boosting because his turbo timer was broken. Maybe you should check that? In all seriousness, without a real boost gauge to tell if you're actually not in boost, or if the ecu's calculations are fucked, or what. Could it be a jacked up maf sensor?
