I thought I was seeing shit..I saw what looked like a super-charger, and then I saw a "turbo" in the background..
I thought.. "naa, that must just be a freakin' huge alternator"

Kingsbury Motorsports. There is a tread on 3si about this car...

I don't know if I am a fan of cutting a huge hole down the length of the frame. I know that they added supports back in... but the idea just doesn't sit well with me.

I wish I had that kind of time/money/fabrication skill.

They used a Montero bell housing. I'm SO glad to see that works. I had an idea about using one of those when I was working out the idea of using a rear mounted C5 transaxle.
Bret Brinkman's car isn't even CLOSE to the same as this. All he did was removed the ring gear from his front diff, and installed a welded center diff. He basically disabled the front drive on an otherwise normal VR4.

That is absolutely fabulous to see some more detailed info and pics on a car just like this!

How well does that work just disabling the front wheels on a vr-4 and only using the rear. I read about galant vr-4 owners doing that too. Is the vr-4 still pretty quick or do you lose ALOT of what the engine puts out?

Now that is definitely an impressive job. Just seeing the same motor mounted lengthway's is pretty awesome.

Supposedly, there is a switch under the dash that does this. :suspect2: Just ask Chauncy.

On the GVR4's they actually do have a switch. It's on the trans, but it is there. DSM guys like to get hold of those trannies as it makes it much easier to dyno 2WD rather than finding an AWD place. IIRC, though, the switch reverts it back to FWD and not RWD, but I could very well be wrong about that.
