Crystal clear interior pics of the new Camaro

Post by Jeff V. »

Our best friends at Jalopnik have scored the first interior pictures of the new Camaro.

Even in rough prototype form, the interior looks great. I'm really glad they managed to come up with an attractive looking radio stack that still fits the lines of the concept interior.

Concept interior for comparison:

I SO want one of these cars!

On the Internet they say, "You never get this! You never get this!" But then one day they all met in Cali and they get this.

I like the concept car's golden glow. :D

The real interior is okay, not a lot of feeling with the dual rectangular dash area. :eh:

I don't like the way the main gages integrate into that dash.

I like it. It's got a little bit of retro to it, without being too retro.

How many times can you do the same rounded off trapezoid right out in front of the driver?

I can count on my fingers the number of cars that have truly unique gauge clusters.

You guys don't like the way the gauges go into the dash...but they did that because the original '69 Camaro had the "dual square" pod dash and among Camaro fans, it's the "favorite" dash. I like how they also got the temp/oil/fuel/volt gauges put in the original location too...even though it's a pain in the ass to look there while driving :p

Meh - maybe it's the angle, but the two big rectangular pillars holding said gauges just looks wrong, to me.

You're a photographer Scotty. You know better than most how much difference angles and lighting can make. Add to that the fact that this is a very rough prototype, and it all adds up to some interesting but unflattering photos. It's like those paparazzi photos of celebrities without their makeup

I bet it looks 10x better when the car is actually released.

In just over a year

I like the concept interior a lot better. Has a certain glow to it that makes it feel warmer and more inviting, also cooler looking. The gauges look nice in the concept along with the shifter and wheel. Those other pics, not so much. The square gauges do not seem to fit as well and the interior as a whole seems a bit dry and not so inviting. Hope the overall performance makes up for that.
I got the midas touch when it comes to rollin shit up

Try to keep in mind that this is an unfinished prototype. The plastic textures, quality, and overall fit and finish are not what you'll see in the final car. Also remember that these were shot by a guy who was probably in a hurry because he was poking around something that he had no business to be poking around :)

No shit. Even if the Z28 comes in at $30k, and even if I had enough to finance 30k, there won't be a dealer in the country that won't be tacking on a 5-10k "market adjustment"

Hmm, I like it, and yet at the same time I don't. Domestic car manufacturers need to take note of how European and Asian car manufacturers do their cars. I would prefer a more "driver oriented" dash on a sports car. Something that wraps around the driver if you will.
It's a step up from some of the domestic interiors, though it still just has a cheap look and feel to it.

The only car I can think of that meets what you're saying is the Audi R8 or the Lambos. Even if you look at the dash on a 911 or a F430, it doesn't really 'wrap around' like the R8 does.

While 90s euro/jap cars kinda had a driver oriented dash, most cars these days are moving away from that again

I should have written that a bit more clearly. I'm not saying taking a page out on having a driver oriented wrap around dash like that (although most dashes do have a slight angle towards the driver which is subtle and hard to catch), just something that doesn't look so cheap.
Take a look at the IS350 for instance, or the new 3 series interiors. All around MUCH nicer than anything I can think of that American companies have.

I just was at the LA Autoshow a few weeks ago. I really like the new Cadillac CTS interior:

I liked it better than the 3 series:

Nissan's interiors have gotten REALLY bad in quality and looks though, I was surprised how cheap and plasticy they were

Ford 500

You're also talking about a $45,000 car (335) versus a $25,000 car, but as far as design...they are very similar in look. Quality in the BMW is nicer than a Ford 500, but the CTS is about on par. I actually think the new 3 series dash is pretty lame, has no angle towards the driver at all...I miss the older models where it seemed a little more driver oriented.

Yeah I do have to say, I like the CTS interior there. Only thing I've never been a fan of is wood trim.
