This for one concerns me. I, like most on here, enjoy a fine car to have fun with which generally do not meet these high MPG standards that will eventually be put into full effect. What about the individual states with higher MPG ratings? This is just ridiculous, I understand the need to lower our dependency on foreign oil and lower "greenhouse gases" .

What about foreign performance cars? How will this effect the automobile enthusiast?

You pay the "Gas Guzzler" tax on high performance cars when you buy them is what happens and I'm sure what will continue to happen.

Yes, we are hurting the environment, and yes we as people need to put changes into effect that will help.

BUT!!!

What everyone in government, the media, tree hugging assholes seem to not be able to grasp is the relative LOW amount of green house gases that are caused by all the cars in the world combined.

YET! the big contributers of green house gases, such as power plants have garnered no levees against them in the United States. Why, because China isn't adopting any efforts so we wont either. But we will beat the dead horse by saying cars are bad.

Not to mention we are getting hotter due to the Earths natural cycle. There was an ice age, and now guess what, it is getting warmer. And you know what, other planets such as Mars are also getting warmer. There are no cars on Mars. Gee, I wonder what could cause this.

What bothers me the most is the tree huggers crucifying the auto industries in the US and Europe, yet China and India have become the worlds factory, have the largest populations on earth, and are allowed to continue as gross polluters with nary a slap on the wrist.

35mpg standard? I don't even get that going 20mph in 5th gear.

Combined with the fact that CAFE is a joke and doesnt force consumers to demand more fuel efficient cars.

Its a shame you live in california.

The new vette's get what...almost 30mpg highway and make a buttload of power, I wouldn't call that bad. If you really want mileage and performance buy a diesel, I really think that's where the future is. In Europe they're selling 2 ton luxury cars that get that mileage now.

Either way this standard is good job security for me (work in a plant that makes catalytic convertors).

Yeah, I don't have any comebacks about car laws...but unfortunately pretty much every state out there has the same emissions laws as California now, and some are worse since they require an inspection every year just to be on the road.

Yep...CA should be happy since not only are their standards not changing much but there are rules in place that prevent states from mandating laws above the federal mandate.

San Francisco is the epicenter of my strong dislike...granted california has some spectacular locations it has some not so spectacular people and laws.

Maybe I read the article incorrect but I took it as the Manufacturer needs to have all there vehicles AVERAGE 35mpg when you factory them all in.

To mean that means a lot of Rio's, Aveo's, and Smart Cars and everyone gets 1 car worth a shit for performance.
