Copper spray

Does anyone use it when doing head gaskets? The guy I took the honda head to flaten suggested I used copper spray on both sides of a MLS head gasket. I was curious how all of you guys felt about it. I didnt put copper spray when I put my vr4 heads on last time but I have to take them back off and might given the response of this thread. Also do I need to put paper towels to cover the pistons while spraying or will it not matter? How heavy of a coat?

I've never used it on the few performance engines I've put back together, but I use it on all of the other crap (not that I do a ton of HGs). You don't want to spray it right onto the head, you just coat the gasket with it...so don't spray it onto the pistons

Spray a couple good coats on both sides of the gasket and let it dry a bit (the spray can should tell you how long you need to let it dry at minimum probably 20mins). If you spray it and then immediately use it, you'll just squish out the spray material, it needs to dry a bit to be useful.

The stuff is supposed to work good at filling in any slight imperfections on the surface of the gasket and head.

Make sure you clean off the head gasket with some brake clean or something before you use the spray...the coppoer spray won't work well with oily finger prints or residue on the gasket.

I never used it on any of the 5 times I've done 6G72 headgaskets, or any other head jobs before. I'll still do in the future if I feel the need on that build and remember.

I think I am going to try it out on the honda. Cant hurt it. I just didnt know how much to put on and if anyone had really used it. I know some ppl swear by it and some think its not worth it.

3-4 lights dustings is what I've used. Just make sure it's got a solid coating on it.
