So, i have to purchase a new vehicle...

Post by tabasco122 »

Ok, i need some suggestions, the 3000GT crapped out again (low compression on all 6 cylinders, overheating, burning oil, etc) so my dad is going to be purchasing a new vehicle for me. Because the 3000GT is under his name, i dont have much choice in the matter, its in good physical condition, but the mechanical workings are of course, lackluster, so i would rather part it out, but thats not an option as i dont have control over the fate of my car. Bottom line is im looking for a car in the neighborhood of $20k, something sporty, not too small. Im really looking at an 08 Lancer GTS M/T. How does that compare to a SOHC 3/s? Im also considering a Toyota Tacoma, but id much rather a car, let me know other options, how you feel about the lancer, etc.

Lancer GTS M/T > SOHC 3/S in everything but looks. if you really must save a buck, the Scion Tc is a good option, as is the Mini (Non-supercharged).

Well my parents just got an 07' subaru impreza, and love it. You can get that with the premium package (6cd,sportshift, etc...) for $20,000, maybe cheaper because they are discounting them. Ive driven it and love it. Deffinently a good car. The lancer is nice too. My parents looked at that, but then figured the subaru was more bang for your buck because it has awd and more horsepower.

No. All 3/Ses have problems. The TTs more so because of how they have been driven ;) You don't want a $5K VR4.

For around $20K I'd look at:
Mazda3
Scion tC
Civic
Tiburon isn't too bad

I am sure I am forgetting some..

mustang is an option, but id rather the last gen v8, doubt id be able to find one though. like an 04 GT.

and about my 3s, as far as i heard, SOHC's are tanks, people rag them out all the time and they last forever, mine spun a bearing 3 months after i got it, then the fucktards that did the swap fucked it up more and didnt screw a spark plug in all the way, blew it up about 200 miles later. had a helicoil installed, then 100 miles after that had strange overheating on the highway. tried all the basic things, finally brought it in for repair, and this is what they found. dont tell me thats common for an sohc, besides, i was planning on having a DD and a vr-4 simultaneously, but dont know if thats gunna happen now...

GTO or Mustang GT. A Honda s2000 are pretty cheap now too, but they aren't very practical.

Mazdaspeed 6 is a decent ride. I'm not sure what they cost used, but I would think it is in the $20k range.
