broken axel boot(clicking noise)

So my axel boot has been ripped for a while and it makes an awefull ticking/clicking noise when i turn the wheel(usually just when i turn right). Can this be fixed with just a new boot grease and clamps? Or do i need a new axel?

if its making noise you need a new axle. you let it go too long with a torn boot

what happens if i let it go indefinitely? my beater is doing this, but i'm wondering if it can be fixed with lots of grease and duct tape.

luckily for me, fully assembled axles for the beater are 50 bucks apiece.

They're only about 80 bones for a FWD 3s.

Always wondered how long it would actually take. I always drove plenty of cars with bad FWD CV joints, as beaters, clicking forever and none actually leaving me stranded.

Driver's side lasted about 4 months on my wife's old '80 Skylark when it started clicking...the passenger side lasted close to six months.

FWD = AWD for the front shafts. No difference.

I haven't had to replace the ones in my TT yet, they were both replaced before I bought the car, so I wasn't sure.
early FWDs are smaller.
I had a hard time finding a passenger side shaft for my '92 FWD ATX. Most "chain" parts stores had the same P# for all years/trannies. All the ones they had, the splined shaft was too big for my car. NAPA ended up having the correct one.

FWD manual and auto tranny axles are different lengths as well on the drivers side.
