i have a 91 vr4 that has had a lot of electrical problems( she had a good laugh tring to catch on fire:eek :) , most them are fixed now but the starter and fuel pump, first the starter before the only way to crank over the motor was to jump the solinode wire directly to the battery so we (xeudoxus, reddragon and myself) ran new wire to the ignition and soldered it in(yes the right one guys), worked just fine useing the key no problems. Now for the fuel pump, we relized that the fuel pump wouldnt come on when we tried to crank it over, so we hot wired it, and after doing them we tried to crank it over and no power to both, we jumped the starter and fuel pump with direct power and they worked that way, so any ideas guys?

Well, the MFI relay is supposed to power on the fuel pump. I'm not sure it's a good idea to hotwire the fuel pump as you only want it to activate when the ECU is powered up.

As for the starter, I did a pretty good writeup about it in the "Lets Talk Basics" thread stickied at the top of this section.

Obviously, you guys botched your rewires somewhere if neither are getting power or the battery doesn't have enough juice to kick the starter over.

xeudoxus wired the fuel pump to his design on his car (which has been on there for 2+ years) and the fuel pump is only on when the car is on, it crank just fine with out the starter relay and the battery was hooked up to a charger.but thanks for the post

just read ur write up(really good by the way) problem with that is two things, first i didnt know about it when we worked on it a few days ago, second melted wires=a pain in the ass to trace, we was origanly going to replace the wire but tring to trace it turned out to be a pain.
