My Turn

Ok, so now that the wife has her car, i can look at finding a commuter car. My round trip is 25 miles. I want to start with my options open, but here is where my head is at.

- Needs 4 doors. I have 2 kids and crammed space doesn't work
- I like performance, but remember its a commuter that will also be used for trips to Northern and Southern CA as well as ID and CO.
- I like the idea of green energy, so EV, plug in hybrid, or hybrid sound good
- New car purchase, but wont rule out almost new.

To further illustrate my dilemma I would enjoy purchasing a Hellcat Challenger if you could still buy new. Yet I also like the small hybrid Corollas getting 40+ mpg. Quite the juxtaposition.

What would you recommend?

whats your price point?

rav4 prime hits almost every box for a great commuter. can do 40ish miles EV only. actually runs out pretty good (300hp). 600ish mile range. not too small.

The new hybrid dodge Ram that’s gas engine lowers the electric stuff (like a train), suppose to be 600/600 and get good gas mileage. Dodge is shutting down all other truck plants to build this.

That wont be available until late 2025 and will be expensive. It is on my radar though if I want to wait that long.

With those long trips you also mentioned I still think a hybrid is better than a full EV.

Of course a econobox in the $30k range sounds appealing to my wallet, but I could spend upwards of $75k

I was looking into the RAV4 before getting my wife the Santa Fe but all the reviews made it sound "Vanilla". I could look into it again. I know last year it was impossible to test drive a Prime because they were selling above MSRP and not even hitting the floor before being sold. It sucked.

Funny you mention that. Its key on my list. I've been following that for quite a while now. That would be a solid contender for sure.

Its just money. :)

The wife has the hybrid for those trips if needed, so not a deal breaker. Most of my driving will be locally so an EV would be beneficial.

No thanks. I wasn't all that impressed with the one my friend had. I imagine Jason felt about the same.

However a TRX...well that's not terrible.

The TRX gets abysmal mileage. It's no different from the Hellcat cars. It's only good at one thing.

Ohh, thats one that i looked at in the showroom when buying my wifes car. Even just the regular Ionic 5 seems to be a great vehicle. 318 miles of range. Thats doable.

Single or dual motor. The dual looks to be pretty fast. Like the short sporty aspect, but no driver gauges and 250 mile range are not so great.

Dual. He got used to the gauges real quick.
