5 speed....200mph

Realistically....how do you do it?
Tire size. Horse power. Distance.
Say you have the salt flats and want to do 200. Is it actually possible?

Drag coefficient becomes your major limit. The absolute most I was able to do in my Stealth was 174mph (according to the speedometer). The car had 400+ whp, the *wrong* gearing for it (JDM planetary) and it just wouldn’t go faster.
After that run the front of the car was practically destroyed. Cracked windshield, under front bumper plastics broke, tires burned up and it burned 15 gallons of gas!

I’ve done 160...never had that shit happen.
I know gearing let’s us go to something like 202 in 5 and 23X in 6. All given stock tires I think.
I’m just wondering if it’s ACTUALLY possible. How much power do you need? What weight do you need to be at? Matt M said once he had been over 200 in a 6 speed. Real?

No idea what he was driving but it definitely wasn't a stock body car. Probably have to mask off a lot of the holes in the front.

Its of course possible base on the math alone, but the reality is most cars with the stock rev limit won't be making enough power at that point in the rev range to actually accelerate.

Stock Stealths had a drag coefficient of 0.33. Veyron in top speed mode was at 0.36, so with enough power you can get over 200mph easy enough in a Stealth. Matt M always had cars that made a lot power, so I wouldn't put it past him...

JDM gearing is worse for top speed than USDM gearing. Max speed of USDM 6speed is 235mph (theoretical at 7000rpm) and JDM is 219mph.

I did 165 on the spedo of mine, but it was likely less due to inaccuracy.

FYI all of those charts are for stock wheels with a 25.7in tire diameter. It's the same for 245/45R17 and 245/40R18.

Right, and I’ve read all of the threads over the years and seen all the graphs.
Obviously I would love to get mine to 200 but it’s never gonna happen. But I want to know what do you REALLY need for 200? 700whp? 800?

A Sikorsky S-64 and free-fall might be the easiest way..

Terminal velocity in a free fall is likely well below 200mph

I bet 500 wheel Hp would get you close...in a stealth.

I doubt it. 540 awhp got me to 175 in the Spyder, with JDM gears at the top of 5th gear. Not enough power to sustain or increase that speed in 6th gear. Also these cars don't make their peak horsepower anywhere near redline which is where you need to be for a top speed run. If I remember right, I was closer to 475 awhp at redline.
No ill effects on my car. Not sure why Greg's car fell apart.

I found some guy that did the math on an older Corvette with a 0.3 coefficient of drag. It needed 346hp to overcome the air resistance alone at 200mph.
I'd bet 600-700whp would get you to 200, but it would take a bit to get there.

I've had mine up to 155-160 multiple times, and never had any issues with it falling apart. I also did 3 runs up to 150 in quick succession, and was no where close to using 3/4 of tank of gas either...
