What do you know about their brakes? I know some of you have tackled the 3s braking systems, but I ran across this set in the yard and I was wondering if they are cross compatible? They say Porsche, but the casting is Brembo. They are 6 piston and in good shape. Are they worth grabbing before someone else gets them?
I looked into it a few years ago. You're gonna need custom mounts at the minimum.
VW Touareg has similar brakes.
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.
Whats the deal with radial mounts? Dont do it?
The inside was pretty stripped but I can take a look.
Radial mounts are way easier to make a bracket for. That is why I went with Viper calipers for the fronts on my Stealth. Super easy to make the bracket.
So should I grab these then?
Up to you. You'd have to figure out a rotor to use, plus make a bracket. Only really worth grabbing if they are radial mount though. The ones you posted in the picture look like axial mount (have the tabs cast into the caliper). Sometimes Brembo uses radial mount calipers, but has their own "stock" bracket on them to make them axial mounted. Just need to check.
I think have a couple more pictures. Let me....yes...
Those radial? Also the holes are threaded. I found that funny as the bolts went through that area to thread into the spindle. At no point did they thread into the caliper. lol.
Im game for making the brackets. Ive got plenty of fab metal available at work. They will be crude and built by hand, but I can make them functional.
Also finding the rotors shouldn't be too hard right? Which rotors did you run on yours?
I see, so mine are regular?
Yes those are regular/axial mounted calipers. Much more difficult to make a bracket to clear things. Radial mounted is what you want for ease of upgrade.
I ran EvoX rotors on mine, since they are 350mm diameter, and have the same hub size as a stock 3/S hub.
I stopped once I figured out how much of a pain in the ass it would be to make brackets. It wasn't long after that I gave up on the whole car. There's not much I can do to help with this.
If you want huge ass, cheap(ish) brakes, look for AMG calipers on eBay. There's plenty of radial mount options for those.

You can get a set of Viper front brakes for ~$500 on eBay (or $600 new) for a pair. They mount up with EvoX front rotors. If you ever go down that route, I can send you the 3D model for the bracket.
A guy in Facebook used Porsche brakes. He made an interesting bracket. Maybe find his post?

I think it was 3sgto. Looked like brackets just like what was for the viper brakes but were tabs. I sent it to jeff at one point I think. Maybe he still has the pic of it.
