I know nothing of them. I need one for the 4 wheeler but also if I go to the drag strip. I want something I dont feel like Im gonna die in.
Do I need a full crotch rocket helmet? I know nothing about brand names or what to look for....dont even know where to start.

Motocross helmet for an ATV for sure. It'll get mud and gunk on it and in it - you don't want that in your nice(r) car helmet.
Whatever one fits the best is typically what I went with. I have a Bell for car racing, and my motocross helmet isn't anything special. When I had a motorcycle, that was a Shoei RF200 - don't know if they even make those anymore, it has been a while.

I know nothing about motocross helmets, but for motorcycle helmets money means comfort. Sure a more expensive helmet will also be safer (there are different ratings and the more expensive ones go above and beyond what is required here in the US), but the comfort level most definitely increases with price.
Love my Shoei motorcycle helmet.

That is what I have for when I had my motorcycle. SNELL and DOT approved. I had a different helmet for snowmobiling, I used a buddies helmet when we rode 4 wheelers, and if I had ever gotten into tracking my cars regularly, I would've gotten a helmet specific for that.
Each helmet type is specifically designed for the task at hand. E.g. motorcycle and ATV helmets won't have the stuff for HANS devices like you should have in a track car helmet. There really isn't a one item fits all when it comes to helmets.

All of the helmets I've bought were sized like S, M, L, XL etc. I would assume more expensive helmets have more custom sizing etc. But I never bought a helmet that was more than $200.

Re: Lets talk helmets
The more expensive ones typically still do sizing the same way, but come with ways to customize it with inserts etc.
