Anyone test theirs? I know ours are strong but I read (obviously an ad) on 3sx and was just curious if anyone has ever tested theirs.

It says to jack up the car, turn a rear wheel by hand, if good then a front wheel will turn, if bad the opposite side rear wheel will turn in the other direction.

I haven't tested mine that I can remember, but I'm removing the rear subframe next week while I'm on vacation, so I will then. I will post the results here!

But I remember reading on multiple 3S sites that most of the time the rear VCU is bad. It won't be an issue for most people though. Much like a blown center VCU is not an issue for most people.

I’m sure most will not ever notice but I would like it to work even if I don’t notice.

I’m gonna do mine tomorrow, will update as well.

Just make sure the opposite rear wheel doesn’t go in the opposite direction. If it follows in the same direction you are good. No need to lift all wheels off the ground.

I would think you deff need the front lifted. Thoughts anyone?

Per my 92 Service Manual

1. Block the front wheels and move the shift lever to neutral.
2. Completely release the parking brake
3. Jack up the rear wheels and place a rigid rack at the specified part of the side sill
4. Disconnect the coupling of the differential and propeller shaft
5. When one wheel is slowly rotated, check whether or not the wheel on the other side turns in the same direction
6. If it turns in the opposite direction, replace the viscous unit.

I’ve never taken off the rear driveshaft. How fun is it?

Wonder why that’s why 3sx says jack up the entire car and yours doesn’t say that. I would think a good center VCU could over power the rear vcu in allowing it to work.

Jacking up the car and disconnecting the driveshaft have the same effect. Mine is a service manual, 3SX is written for the driveway mechanic. If you just jack up all the wheels, you don't have to get under the car like you have to to disconnect the driveshaft.

You can do it with the driveshaft connected as well.

Jacked up front and rear, turned a rear wheel, only the front one turned as well. Let down the front, jacked the back up higher, put jack stands under and was gonna disconnect the driveshaft only to find out that it’s not gonna rotate while the front wheels are down. I only have one set of jack stands. So I can’t have the thing totally up at once. Interesting.

Did you put the shifter in neutral? There is no reason the driveshaft wouldn't turn with the trans in neutral.

Even if it's not you can slowly walk it past the center vcu.

When I was trying to turn the driveshaft the front wheels were on the ground. Aka only two jack stands. So with the front wheels on the ground, shifter in neutral, no my driveshaft wouldn’t turn.
