Can I put GL5 in my TC and also in the rear diff on my vr4? I know I can put GL5 in the rear diff but I dont see why I couldnt in my TC, curious on if anyone knows much about this topic. I got some red line heavy shockproof rated at 75w90 but have a cushioning effect of up to 75w250.
Thoughts?

GL5 is bad for brass synchros. Being there are no synchros in the t-case, I don't see how it would be bad for it.

Just asking as I think the manual says GL4 in the TC. I could be wrong.

Iirc tc is shockproof light and the diff is heavy. GL5 deteriorates soft metals like synchros.

I use the Shockproof Heavy in my transfercases. The DSM guys use it too. Works good.

I've run Shockproof Heavy in my TC since basically day one. I use the Redline 75w90 in the rear diff, and Redline MT-85 in the transmission. No issues with them.

But no reason not to run it in both TC and rear diff correct?

I should after the night I had with it.
Long story short my fill bolt is stripped. It came out just fine, it never even tried to tighten again.
Read lots, too thin for a heli, if I swap it I need to check a bearing preload, have to pull the TC to take off the cover.
All stuff that turned a 40 min job into something out of my wheel house. I dont know how to check bearing preload....
Very pissed right now.

The true fill hole on the 5sp transfer case is actually on the front of the transfer case (the only bolt with the head towards the front of the car).

This. Early 5 speeds didn't even have the bolt on the cover

Might have lucked up. I made sure I reversed the thread till it clicked. And then even before when putting it in and out it would get to the end with some tension before just spinning. So I used a thick copper washer, screwed it on, got enough tension I felt it was okay. Now obviously I will take it on a spirited drive and check it. But I may have lucked out.
