I’m impulsive....subframes let’s talk about it.

So I bought a tubular front subframe and since then I’ve been talking to a lot of people about a lot of things. I love the talk, I’ve learned A TON. Let’s hear everyone’s thoughts.

You know, Coop.. sometimes you do the weirdest things. And frankly sometimes I don't agree with you. But you never cease to keep things interesting! That is a good thing haha.

It's cool and all, but I just don't see the point in doing it on a 3/S honestly (but more power to you).

I mean I still have mine, and still love driving mine, but if I ever wanted something that is a more dedicated track car etc., the 3/S just doesn't fit that very well.

When it gets down to it, the 3/S was/is a great grand touring car, but it is still late 80's/early 90's technology.

I don’t think I could replace it with something as all around powerful and does everything for the price, do you? Until then, or until I can dump a ton of money into another car then I will prob still just mod this one here and there.

If you add up everything you've spent on your VR4, I bet you could. I know I for sure could, even if I discard things like getting wheels and the car repainted.

No you can't probably for ~$10k, but you've spent way more than $10k on your VR4 in the time you've had it.

Okay. Fair. But part of having a car is modding it and enjoying what you’ve done. Learning. Making friends. I will never be just a buy it and leave it alone type of guy. So what I could get out of the vr4 I couldn’t get anything else that comes close. And I’m never gonna be a hard core racer, I believe this will be one of those few made very sought after later parts. It will prob not go on my car for a year.

It probably will be sought after. I still just really don't see the point of it. I did get the Lat42 projectors (used) when a set popped up (pun intended ha), but those to me had a real benefit of making the lighting SIGNIFICANTLY better.

For how you use your VR4, I'm not sure the benefits of having a tubular subframe.

I think Coop is still holding out for the 3S platform to make it big. And it was somewhat in its day but decades have past and times have changed. Maybe we are just holding onto the past because we’re older, have lager family’s or just can’t afford today’s equivalent.

I don’t spend much on my 3s’ anymore as I just don’t drive them. That and they seem to be more reliable the more they stay stock. Their ROI also seems to be better that way.

Mine couldn’t be put back stock if I wanted to. Yes they are more reliable and I don’t get to drive them much anyways either. But it’s still my escape, go to the garage and tinker around with her. Drive her on the weekend. I don’t think the 3/s will ever be big but I would eventually love a 3.8 build.

See I don't really enjoy working on mine that much anymore. Especially after having the ST and now RS that were both brand new. They are so much easier to work on, not having to worry about breaking bolts etc.

I did drive it last night though, and it puts the RS to shame in terms of acceleration and power. But the RS is years ahead when it comes to handling and creature comforts.

I still won't sell it, and maybe when my son is older, we can work on it together and it'll be a project we can have.

Yes. So much yes! I want to teach my children around it because I can fix anything that brakes on it and they will understand what modding a car does. I do worry about the reliability of it, but it hasn’t let me down in a long time.

How much lighter is it than the stock unit?

I don't think any of the mounting points have changed, or there is any adjustablility in it, so the only real benefit is weight savings.

It’s kind of all over the place but I think 50-60lbs lighter. I talked to Eric (LS Eric) and he suggested a double adjuster on the control arm to allow for better alignment. Makes sense but also could add in a weaker spot.

I get that. It used to be my escape too, but that has shifted to the Mighty Max and the Montero for now. Those are surprisingly much easier to fix and im less worried about scratching, or hitting a curb. They can take the abuse and keep going.

I would have had a 3.8 Turbo Mivec build completed by now with the Stealth, but then I had to find these silly 3.0L Mighty Max trucks, so there when my 3.8 block. Now i have a wife, 2 kids and no time to waste $.
