Is there a roll cage that would actually help, but would not effect getting in and out of?

I’ve been told a hoop wouldn’t really help a lot but a cage would be hard to make look right with going through the dash.

Basically someone school me on roll cages, good and bad.

For drag racing, or for open track kind of stuff? How quick is your car?

Just for safety if the worst happens.

"Worst happens" while doing what? Just driving around on the street? 3/S cars are built like tanks.

If you are intending on using a cage for street driving, it is more likely the cage will kill you from hitting your head on it than it saving your life.

It goes to the dragon, and I drive slow. I would like it to go to the track and run 11’s, even if it’s 11.9. How do they handle a side impact? I’ve seen plenty of head on and even one roll over and they look survivable. Not seen a slide and telephone pole oops.

Head hits a bar, you die.

Well... Curt Gendron slid his Stealth TT off the road and down an embankment into some trees, and he was fine. We had a guy flip over a '99 VR4 going off a cloverleaf and he was fine. Seems like most of the bad 3/S accidents were survivable.

Don't need anything for drag racing until you are under 11.50. Then it is a roll BAR. Cage at 9.99 or 135 MPH in the 1/4.

If you really feel like you should do something, I'd say just do a rollbar with proper support bars going back as far as you can, and anchor the hoop on the solid corners of the rear seat frame. Weld it all in. Angled crossbar(s) inside the hoop to prevent it from getting squashed down.

I think you can MIG mild steel, but chromoly has to be TIG welded.

The roof halo goes alongside your head. Any car with a full cage in it, you should be wearing a helmet at ALL times in it.

Roll BAR - yeah, you are probably fine there unless you get rear-ended hard without a helmet.

I kind the idea of a roll bar. I might try and look up pics. I can also pad it.
