Yea, its was close, but thankfully I walked. Its an 87 with decent interior (porno red), but its been sitting a decade without a motor or trans. Motor and trans are in pieces scattered across a packed garage. No thanks. Guy doesn't have the title (apparently several people are after him, stole his identity, paperwork, so hes moving out). Dude is a nut case and I wont buy a car without a title. He also forgot to mention the front end didnt survive a small boulder incident.

I really wanted this car bad and for...$200.

Oh man it sucks its such a mess. I'm keeping my eye out for one because for sentimental reasons.

This was almost a perfect project car, but between the body dents, bondo, front frame tweaking, and a bipolar 45 year old man who thinks the world is after him, and no title I decided to pass.

I hope you find one. They are getting harder to find and most are crap and $4k.

Yep and combined with trying to keep an 80s TBI car running and CA legal is even more difficult.

True, man i dont miss that state...well except for the coastline and good weather.

I still for the most part love it here. Yes there are things I don't like, such as emissions. I also understand the need for it, and how much it's help to clean up our air. Spare the Air Days used to normal all summer long, now they only happen once every few weeks. Even still the climate and geography collude to give us some of the worst air pollution in the country.

Emissions testing is gone for us in 7 months

Hah here in CA those cars almost never die. Outside of mechanical failure or accidents cars just don't fall apart here.

Problem is you only have to pass the emissions requirements for the year the car was made. So you can have an old POS car, that pollutes way more than a new car, but since it passes the required emissions from when it was made, it's allowed to stay on the road.

Well that is quite possibly the dumbest thing I have ever heard hah.

Why would an old car have to pass standards required of newer vehicles? You're essentially forcing those who probably can't afford a new car payment to either walk or be homeless.

Oh please, you and I both know the majority of cars that would have an issue are not driven by people who can't afford a few years old Corolla that would pass the tests. Case in point you two hah.

Not hardly. My Sequoia would not pass modern standards. Neither would my Miata have. It'd be a huge hardship on everyone with a car more than a a few years old.

You are implying that poor people want/require a Corolla. What if a families 70's blazer is already paid off. Shouldn't one have the right to keep that vehicle as it meets its OEM pollution standard. People shouldn't have to expense more $ just to get into a newer car. That money can go to more important things.

I like certain older vehicles just like I like some of my newer ones. My financial status doesnt mandate what automobiles I need to purchase or drive.

Nothing I drive would have a problem passing a test for it's year of manufacture but none would pass a current new car requirement.

My Swift literally blows zero hydrocarbons at elevated and at last check 17 at idle. It would still likely fail based on warmup emissions. I promise it's evap leakage is well off the charts of acceptable for current standards
