Flash tune

Post by DCIV »

A GM vehicle!!!!

So what I have gathered so far, I need the thing that plugs into the obd port, an mvpI2. It’s about 300 bucks. Then I need the software, 40 bucks. But then I need so many credits to be able to flash the vehicle? I just want to turn off my rear 02’s and prob gut my cats.

Anyone done anything with flash tuning a GM vehicle. Jeff *cough* *cough*

It says the cat is bad and keeps throwing a code. It cost the same to replace the cat as it does to disable the 02’s. I don’t want to modify the maps or anything. Just figured it would be easier than replacing but maybe not.

Isn't there some law that says a dealer can't sell a vehicle with a malfunctioning emissions system?

Hmmmmm. No it was a dealer, never heard of that...makes sense though. I mean I talked him down as part of that, I don’t really care minus now I need to fix it.

I have HP Tuners for our Chevys. Probably the best way to flash tune these things, especially if you actually want to do a little tuning. Turning off the MIL for O2 sensors should be cake with it.

I was going to say HP Tuners as well. I think it's by far the most common and supported flash software for late model Chevys.

How much is it like the 3/s flashing? Do they have a handheld option so I don’t have to have a computer? Did I read that right that I need to pay to flash it every time?

It takes credits per vehicle, and should come with like 2 or 4 credits. Once you flash a vehicle, it debits the credit(s) that car takes, and then you can flash that car as many times as you want.

Need laptop to flash, at least on my version. Their new dongle might be able to do it without a laptop in the car, or be able to do it soon. I have the "old" dongle version (MPVI Pro). But really how many times are you going to flash it?

Not much, just gotta figure out how to flash it. Seems like once you learn it’s easy but there are so many steps when doing the 3s stuff that if you don’t in a while you forget.

Because it has 101k on it. Apparently it’s good for 700k more according to you all.

At 100k how it was taken care of is more important than mileage.

Chevys have their downsides but they are cheaper to fix and will find more high mileage ones out there still going. I don’t know anyone with a 300 Toyota, I know if 3 Chevy pick ups over 400, and one suburban with 500. Again, I know they are both out there....I just personally know people with the Chevy. But I want rid of cars at 200k so at 100k it will take me a long time to get to 200k and at 100 not a lot they can do to hurt it.
