The Future

Post by Duck Vader »

So, with all the major car companies investing more and more into electric only vehicles, do you think it is the right move? Is electricity the future? Or should they be investing in something different? Put all the time and money into hydrogen perhaps? Should they still be working on perfecting hybrids or is it truly time to move on?

Curious as to your thoughts since we are all gear heads a bit here.

Until battery technology improves, I don't think you will see that many full electric vehicles. Hybrids, definitely. The issue is right now, it would be incredibly difficult to drive across country in an electric only vehicle. Doable, yes, but difficult.

Until it's as quick and easy to get full range like filling a gas tank, I think electric cars will only be there to offset the SUVs to attain the 25mpg average requirement etc. I also think there will always be "conventional" combustion vehicles our there, at least in our lifetimes.

And Tesla is raising their charging station rates. I think you will see big oil drop their pants before they loose this game. They are way to invested.
