Not my words but it hits the nail on the head.

It might not be best for business, but something I tell friends and customers almost daily. Do not over complicate your build. So many people stay in this perpetual build phase and never finish their car. There are multiple reasons for it. Some psychological some not. Some people subconsciously fear something I call Racecar Post Partum Depression. When you are in this romantic build phase where you are spending so much time with your car and obsessing over all the details you have something to occupy your thoughts and time. You also have so much hope. And you think that life will be so much better when your build is done. And some remote part of your brain knows that your life is still going to suck lol. You also are afraid you can't back the shit you've been talking up lol. So you stay in a hopeful phase and just keep adding to your punch list. The less deep part of this is you've been sold on all this extra stuff. Most of the street car crowd especially import people (I consider myself one just as much as a domestic guy, and have also fell victim to the psychological part of this), even after they get their car together could probably shave a half second of their E.T.'s by simply getting their ass to the track. People spend thousands to shave 300 pounds off their car that depending on what level of power we are talking about might drop you E.T. .2-.3 of a second if any (depending on how the car is set up and where the weight was removed) And this is just one example. They spend their last dime and make the build last months or years longer, and are a lot of times too busy paying debts to race or are afraid of breaking the car thus costing more money. When they could of saved thousands, had there car out months or years earlier, had way more fun, met new friends, possibly attracted sponsors and ended up running a faster time than you maybe someday would of with all this extra stuff you are afraid of racing with... Because you were out there doing the damn thing instead of being in the perpetual build bench racing phase. There are places to save money and places not to skimp on. That's my thoughts, but just today I realized that fits the "No BS, just results" way of thinking that Buschur Racing has always been about. I am a fan of innovation and improving but a large percentage of you need to think about this.

This is why I have very simple well thought out goals for the projects on my cars. I don't want to be continually building, I want to be able to get in it and enjoy it most of the time.

To many people think it’s so easy to put on parts and be cool. Problem is even once the project car is done, it might not even run right. Most people throw so much money into it that they think about if it breaks they have nothing. So they part out and take pennies on the dollar.

Building a car is like a diet. It’s a lifestyle...it can’t be a fad.

The problem I ran into is my car became Forrest Gump. (No not Chris Benheken or however his name is spelled.)

When I first started reviving my Stealth it was supposed to be, yank the engine and trans, clean up the engine bay, do a quick refresh on the engine, get a trans together, and then drop the engine and trans back in and start on body work.

What happened was I pulled something and something under it looked like shit, so I figured, since I've gone this far I may as well keep going. That led to more and more removal and more and more of well, I've gone this far, I may as well keep going. This led to well, I've already bought this, this and this, I may as well replace this too.

After that life got in the way, and then I started again only to decide to scrap the Stealth when I ran across a stupid clean 3000GT for a great price, and I basically started over again on stripping the body down so I could get it to the point I wanted to start building it back up.

I'm finally at a point where its getting close to running for the first time in a long, long time, but I keep spinning my wheels running into little things I have misplaced, or just forgot I didn't have yet and that just keeps delaying me and stressing me the fuck out. My cousin told me to take a break from it for a few days, but its a double edged sword. A break is probably needed as it is stressing me, but a break means I am not getting anything done which stresses me.

I don't know how many people have been in the boat I put myself in, but thats my story.
