When I last put together the front of my car I sandblasted all subframes, power coated them, and then put in poly bushings. I would like to do the same with the rear, including overhaul the AWS and any bushings or hoses that are back there.

I already picked up all the AWS hard lines and stuff from someone doing a AWS delete on a very low mileage vr4. That stuff is in near perfect condition including the rack.

Today I picked up a spare rear subframe so that I can take my time and do this right. Now I know the rear half shafts are very hard to find but I am also wanting to find some hoses that I bet are next to impossible as well and if I can't find them, figure out a solution that will take care of everything for another 25 years. Note that there is nothing with anything in the rear of mine (that I know of), I would just like to do the bushings and make sure there is no rust.

To be fair I use to post tons of pictures. Then the forum wouldn’t take my pics anymore and then photobucket crapped out.

The manual may come out on this one. This is a part of the car I have not taken apart. I can go through everything needed to drop the transmission in my head or do the timing in my head, as I’ve done them so much. But these bolts have not been turned on the car since 1992. Kind of excited!

I need info like the rear PS pump o-ring info. Or is the steering rack rebuildable and if so, what’s the part number. Or do you have to press in new ball joints. Are bushings still available? Which ones should I use poly and which ones stock? There are some lines that have fittings crimped on them, think OEM still has those? And anything else I don’t know about these rear subframes that you all might.

You're doing more with that rear frame than I ever have. Most I've ever done was swap out a rear diff assembly.

That looks like it’s going to hurt. One way or another.

Sadly I don’t even know what some of this stuff is called for the rear steer. Let alone if stuff is rebuildable or have to find in good/new condition.

It’s not gonna be quick or easy that’s for sure. I need to take a bunch of picks to make sure I know where stuff is, then take apart and start sand blasting and making a list of what all I need. Then I can start to coat and put back together.

Most (if not all) of the stuff for the rear steering isn't available anymore. I think you'd have to have lines custom made for all the lines. All the bushings for the rear are available.

What about the wheel bearings. Has anyone just replaced the bearings or should I buy the whole thing?

I have a press but I’m still thinking about just buying the hub. Seems they are a huge pain to get off but not horrible to go on.

Well scratch that. It's not built the way I thought it was. Looks like individual bearings are your only option.

You can buy the individual bearings (2 per side), all the bushings, and replacement upper control arms (needed if lowered). Anything related to the steering rack I think you will have to buy used, or have custom stuff made (like the lines). As for the pump o-ring, you may just have to find one that works.

All the hard mines I have in very very good condition. I bet mine are still good as well as my car spent it’s whole life in Alabama. Same with the steering rack, the one I bought is very good.

Are the ball joints pressed in? Or are they somehow different from the front?
