My search for a vehicle

Post by DCIV »

So I’ve pretty much set my mind on a Ford Escape. 13-17 model with the 2.0 and non titanium with awd. Want something in the 50-60k miles. Well that’s not impossible to find but prices are all over the place. On top of that dealer fees are all over the place. No real individual selling them that I can find and being I want a very specific model a person would make it even harder.

So for the past two months I’ve been looking. Every day. Hard. Found one at the local ford dealership. Went to go test drive it. It had a recal on it and they said they would call me when fixed. Waited a week, nothing, so I called them up and they had not even gotten the part. They told me first time they had the part. Then second time the part would be in tomorrow. Called back next week...still not ready.

F them.

Found another one at a local dealership. Called them, wasn’t on the lot yet and this was Friday. Monday it was on the lot but I worked Monday. So I went tues before 9 with money in hand. Car gone.

This same dealer pretty much has the cheapest dealer fees, 250 for everything. And they said they would order me one that meet my needs.

2 weeks later he had one, I checked it out...,2.4l non turbo fwd. he wrote down exactly what I wanted. Called yesterday...had another one, checked it out. Nope 1.6 turbo.....grrrrr. Come on dude.

Anyways, I’m getting very frustrated.

That is a great questions.

First I need something in the suv status because of my driveway, just makes it easier. (That or most subarus)

Second, I need something that gets decent gas mileage.

Third, I wanted something that was more fun to drive. Yet needed to be automatic.

Honestly. I wanted a wrx or evo. That’s what I’ve wanted. Subaru having issues at 100k and everyone saying stay away from the turbo model was enough for me. The evos are just too expensive for the miles I want. So I ended up on a Ford Escape. Gets great driving reviews, has nice power, and good gas mileage.

Why not upgrade to something a little more sportier than that like an Edge Sport. Twin turbo V6 and it’s small. We test drove one and liked it much more than anything else in that size class. Lots of power and stability.

Gas mileage and price. Wife has an edge non turbo and driving slow it still only gets 23mpg. Plus the newer twin turbo ones are expensive. I’m looking in the 14-16k range.

This is very very true but I honestly do read and think about what everyone says, even if my posts don’t reflect that. I just hate things like, you can’t do that or that will not work...I may not be an engineer or explain things great but I’m pretty good at knowing what I can and can’t do.

Most thrills for the most amount of economical is the goal.

I drive a lot of miles a year, and usually drive vehicles that are slow and good with gas. This would the most sporty daily I’ve had.

I do have a pretty modified vr4 if I need some fast thrills and a Humvee if I need some slow thrills.

That’s why I did want a wrx...just too expensive and no auto till the newest. Plus apparently not 200k reliable. I know the ford 2.0 is tested hard by ford to 150k.

I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

Honestly, the MIVEC is barely any faster than the regular 3.8. The only reason I went with it in my truck is for bragging rights, and because I found one cheap. Otherwise I'd have just used a normal 3.8 from a Galant or Endeavor.

Hi. I’m Coop. I like pointless things just because.

Really I should start a support group.

I didn’t realize this till recently.

Matt’s 3.7 or whatever he broke the record with was from a 3.0 block with that custom crank.

Makes you wonder how much you could get out of a 3.8.

I think 4.1 is the max you can get out of that block, and that's without leaving any safety margin between the bores.

What do you think is going in the SWB Monti if I get it?

Stroke only matters if I want to rev high, correct turbo choice, and stock revs are fine with me.
