Ok so I'm still (slowly) working on my 3000, Blue Bastard 2.0, and am getting to the point of being able to get rid of the Stealth shell. But before I do I need to make sure of some things. One is just like the title states, I'll be using my 2nd gen SOHC cluster, which had an electric speed sensor, in a 1st gen NA DOHC shell, which had a mechanical speedo cable.

Am I going to run into any issues with this? Should it just plug right in to the 1g dash or will I have to swap some wiring?

Never heard of anything but also never looked it up.

I went ahead and finished yanking the dash from the Stealth. Hoping I don't have to pull the 3000 dash and swap harnesses, but if I do then I'll just go ahead and do the dash vents while its out.

Either way, I'd like to know for certain before I get to that point.

The 91 harness won't have the pins to drive the speedometer. You'll need to swap the harness or add a small sub-harness.

So I just need to swap the cluster harness? Or is there more involved?

You'd need the newer engine harness as well as the dash/interior harness. It'd be a pretty big job. It'd probably be easier to get the connectors and pins and just build a jumper.

I put the 2g SOHC engine harness in already.

I was kinda hoping that since 1g TT's were electric speedos that all the 1g dash harnesses were electric speedo ready. If not then so be it. I'll just have to pull the dash and swap the harness.

Thanks Jeff. I know I am going to run into some weird things with this project anyway with putting a SOHC in a car that never had the SOHC as well as putting 2g stuff in a 1g car. I'll get to do it all over again once I start the TT swap.

Check the pins on the cluster connector. You might be right about the dash harness already being set up for it. I forgot the TTs always had electronic speedos.

Yeah that thought crossed my mind as I was posting that last post. Do you know what colors I'll be looking for? Would it be the same colors coming off the speed sensor?

It appears the wiring is there, it just goes to the REED sensor on non turbos. This is from a 92 Stealh manual.

Thanks Aaron. Hopefully it works out. I'll probably pull some wiring from the Stealths dash before I get rid of that dash just to be safe.

I know its late, but I would just like to confirm the 2g cluster works fine in a 1g dash.

Also late but my 99 VR4s had all the wiring from the 1Gs. Adding the Tour mode bulb and active exhaust switch was plug and play. All I needed was to complete the missing wire from the driver side dash harness to the ECU itself. Piece of cake.

Other than the color change in 96, it’s the exact same dash.
