2018 Explorer Sport

It was time for a bigger car...The Equinox was not cutting it with a kid and two dogs. It was between the Explorer Sport and the Traverse. Ashley decided on the Explorer. I think it was the better choice as well.

It has the 3.5L Twin Turbo V6. 365HP and 350TQ. AWD as well. It really gets up and goes for a 4900lb SUV. It has all the goodies in it like adaptive cruise, heated/cooled seats, and panaramic sunroof.

Best part is now we have 3 vehicles, with a total of 16 cylinders, 5 turbos, and 10/12 driven wheels. :evillaugh: Anyway...here are the pics.

Very nice. We almost got the explorer instead of the edge, but the price was just so much less we went with the edge. You bought what I wish we had though.

We were deciding between those two as well. We drove the Sport for each. The Edge had the 2.7 TT and the Explorer had the 3.5 TT. We wanted the larger space, but we really liked how well the Edge handled and moved compared to the Explorer. Then we went and test drove a Durango... :)

Good looking Explorer. White looks best IMO. Surprised you didnt look at a Durango R/T along with the Traverse. We really liked it.

I couldn’t find the tt when looking for the edge. I think because ours is a 2016 it hadn’t come out or just came out and a 2 yr old car is a huge savings.
I just love that these new Explorers are fast af for what they are. Great trucks really and they take well to mods.
I agree and Ford has nailed it on price as well. I hope they hold their value and stay reliable but ford has come a long way.

The hood needs to be debadged, but it looks great otherwise.

Cool. I like the looks of the 2018 but I'm hoping for a significant improvement in rear end interior efficiency with the 2020 overhaul. I would also probably pick the 2018 explorer sport over the new traverse. I was very disappointed in the new traverse... Chevy had a chance to hit a home run and instead decided to pinch hit with a blind minor league player.

Ghost lettering and a couple little stick on antennas.

From someone who has driven an old cop car at the fire hall to run errands, it’s way more annoying that everyone slows down and you can’t get through traffic.

Just sharing the flip side.

I was on the freeway yesterday and saw exactly that. It was a recent but beat up Crown Vic. Black, tinted windows. I noticed his license plate was civilian, so I didn't worry about it. But everyone else immediately knocked 10mph off their speed

I think he was a rent a cop or something. There were some kind of lights inside the car, but given its overall shit condition, I'm still convinced it had nothing to do with KCPD.

I remember while I lived in Texas I saw a guy pulled over by a cop in Houston. The cop car? A beat up 1990s Camaro. I have a feeling that car was not stock..

I actually like the badge on the hood. I don't think it looks as good without it. I do hate that it came with the front license plate bracket installed though. I think it was installed at the factory as it was on the window sticker (and I've seen ones without it, that don't have it on the window sticker).

FCA still doesn't rank as high as Ford in short term or long term quality. Though my sister has a Durango with the V6 and hasn't had any issues with it either. Plus we liked the look of the Explorer a bit better.

There was only one thing the Traverse had going for it over the Explorer, the middle row captains chairs in the Traverse have an arm rest on the inboard side of the seat. Ford offers a center counsel as an option if you get the captains chairs in the 2nd row, but that defeats the purpose of the captains chairs in the second row  I think the Traverse may have a bit more cargo room with the 3rd row up, but the rear floor is a hinged cover, and you can't really store anything for travel in there, where as the Explorer is open, because that is where the seats fold into.
Aaron if you want some ghost lettering vinyl for the doors I'll cut it for you :) Nothing like freaking out folks and making them think you're PoPo
Don't even need it...People already slow down when they see it because they think it is a cop car

Unless things have changed in the 11 years since I've been with Ford the plate bracket will be on the window sticker but it's still a dealer installed item during PDI

Don't go getting CO poisoning either. Im sure the civilian trucks fare much better, but i would hate to be the Police driving one.
