4G in a 3S!

Post by J-Groove »

From 3SGTO
Yep, I did that...........

4g64 stock shortblock. 4g63 head, 14b lol. AEM series 2. Custom mounts of course and some other tricks to make it happen. Moving into a new house this summer. Fall will bring a proper build with a long rod setup and a bigger turbo.

Everything 6g related is for sale. Tons of aftermarket and stock parts.

Wheels are also new. Double stagger, NSX style. 18x8 +20 (+5mm spacer, +15 effective) up front. 19x9.5 (+40) in rear. (yes, tire heights match.)
Pretty bad ass, no hype, just a video, BAM! He did it.
Meh. It's a step back imho. Sure it's a proven engine, in cars that need less immediate torque because of weight.
That's sort of what I thought, unless I'm missing something. I'm still pretty impressed that he did it though. I wish he would have documented it.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Just like the haters that said the same thing about but the sr20 in the 300zx. I wonder what the weight difference is? Plus more room in the bay

Why is it that whenever someone disagrees with something, they're automatically a hater?

There's nothing the 4G will do that the 6G won't. If he's all gonzo over the DSM auto tranny, he could have tracked down a JDM GTO trans, which is the same damn F4M3 as the DSM uses, and built that up with a lot less effort.

It's cool that he did the fabrication, but I just can't see the practical application of it. It's subjectively interesting, but it's not objectively better.

Many things people do to cars aren't necessarily better. I'm sure its easier to maintain and has tons more room in the engine bay.

Personally, I think this is way cooler. You just don't install a smaller engine unless it's to meet some f'd up racing class regulation. Go bigger or don't bother.

Easier to work on? If that's the motivating factor, I still don't understand.

Their was a time when people thought modding a NA 3S was pointless.

Their was a time when people thought that converting a FWD 3S to AWD was not worth the work.

People mod their cars the way they want who cares if any of us understands the why?

It still is.
Alan wrote:Their was a time when people thought that converting a FWD 3S to AWD was not worth the work.
It still isn't. And half the people still do it wrong anyway.

Because they put it on an internet forum. The point of a forum is to have discussion. The forum is not there to only blow rainbows up people's asses just because the latest special little snowflake did something "different".

IMO, Their is a difference between saying "WFT WHY?" and saying "thats retarded"(not looking at Jeff with this comment)

From one point of view even owning a 3S and modding it at all could be considered a waste of time. The fact that their are better platforms is a given. But a group of us keep plugging away with the 3S even tho others consider it "dump", "stupid" or "retarded". This is no different.

Lets save weight by putting in a smaller engine... but add weight by installing an auto trans. I think there is zero weight savings involved in this swap. Only thing it's good for is simplicity of the setup. Building stroker engines based on a 4G platform is definitely a lot cheaper than a 6G setup. If he gets it up to a 2.4 stroker, it probably won't be horrible to drive. The auto trans will help a lot in that aspect. The long gear ratios of the auto is great for huge turbo setups on relatively small displacement engines. You can rev those engines up pretty high, so trapping crazy MPH in the 1/4 with an auto through only 3 gears is very realistic (and has been done a lot). It would be a great drag car. Other than that, the car is probably useless.

So you take a 2.0L....and stroke it to 2.4L.....to replace the THREE LITER engine you started with.

This makes no sense.
