Stock z06?
2JZ wins at 20psi but I'm unimpressed if thats stock vette.
Thats why I need a BOOSTED LSx

I'd like to see those two race from a dig. The torque and low end acceleration from that vette would put enough distance between the two that the Lexus wouldn't have enough time to catch up.

That's one of the things I don't understand about Supra/2JZ nut-swingers: What's so special about a car that is only affective at racing at highway speeds? They build those cars with such small, peaky power bands that they couldn't possibly be fun in a daily driver situation, then feel special when they outrun someone at 130+ but could never get anywhere in a stoplight to spotlight race. It makes no sense to me.

Meanwhile, you see ourselves sitting at a stoplight spinning the front wheels cursing the other car, yelling "Damn you!! I'll get you on the highway!!"

Yeah, but you have launch problems due to lack of traction. That's very, VERY different than not building boost until 6,000 RPM. Busting the wheels loose is still fun on a daily driver.

Agreed. Our problem comes from too much low end power, and not enough tire to make up for it (and the inherent wrong-wheel drive thing). I don't need 100mph+ to put the hurt on cars. Personally, 40-100 is where I feel my car is at it's strongest, and anything above that is drag strip territory. That video says they were doing 160mph on a public road? That's a bit beyond what I would safely do.

Unimpressed? A 400HP car designed to put on the pain from a stop and is geared specifically to have a good powerband for racing and not top speed versus a 600HP car that is in it's prime on the highway and it takes up to 160MPH to put a couple car lengths on it?

Yeah, unimpressed that built up car racing in its prime conditions barely edges out the vette. F'n ricers

Bone stock '05 C5 Z06. I was very impressed with it.

The Lexus was still being tuned, they're hoping for close to 500 rwhp before the WCNC. Damn those stock n/a 2JZ blocks are strong!

After I get my vr-4 back on the road/track I'm going to have to get me a good Ol' fashioned V8 (or if my annual review goes well a new one )

Besides running the VIN, is there anyway to identify which vettes have the FRC package? I haven't seen any listed with this package or trim level. Are they just extremely rare?

The FRC wasn't so much a package as a whole different body style.

The coupes had the removable roof, and the sloped hatch glass.

The FRC cars has no removable roof (hence Fixed Roof Coupe) and a much shorter hatch glass. The rear of the car was a big flat deck with a trunk, just like the convertible.

If you can get a pic of the back of the car, it's pretty easy to tell.

The FRC isn't THAT rare - they made 29,000 of them. I don't really consider it a "package" - it's a specific type. There are a million Corvette production websites:

EDIT: And to add onto what Gate was saying, the FRC and the Z06 have the same top and look almost exactly alike.

There are quite a few of them out there...anyone selling them should say "FRC" or "Fixed roof" or something like that in the title.

Gotcha. After checking out a few pics, I see the differences that you were talking about.

Personally, I like the looks of the Targa hatch much better that the FRC; in fact, the removable targa top was one of the main reasons I started thinking about vettes. But that said, the improved suspension and performance got me interested in a z06.

From what was stated in one of the other threads, it sounds like the FRC came equipped with the z51 handling package. Seeing how this is also an option for targa coupes, I would probably lean away from the FRC. I could do without the targa if I found a sweet deal on a z06 though.
