Killed one of our own

Post by Jeremy C »

So Jeff, Ann, and I are on our way home from seeing Aerosmith, just a few miles from home on a long, straight stretch of interstate. We're all rambling about upcoming vehicles and platforms and I see a familiar set of tail lights ahead of me. I call out "3000GT" to which Jeff replied "base or ES Stealth." He was right :( Guessing off the rims and overall condition of the car, it was a SOHC of FURY!!! and didn't look very well kept at all.

We're cruising along at about 75-80mph, get up next to him and he lurches the car forward. We're coming to a split where you have to go either north or south onto another highway, and we were heading in different directions. Still feeling some energy from the nights events, I jump over into teh lanes going his direction and promptly put about 10-15 car lengths on him through the turn (long left hand sweeper). I slow down and let him catch up to me at the end of the merge lane. He tries to fly past me. I then proceed to get back in front of him to make him choose to either pass on the left (and start a race) or stay behind me. He chooses the prior. I drop back to fourth and off we go. He gets the initial jump and puts about a length on me. We start into some traffic, so I stay in 4th (we're at somewhere near 90mph I would assume) and pull behind him until we pass the slower vehicles. Once past, I lay into it again and wind out 4th, putting a steady and growing distance between the two of us for a few seconds until it was obvious he wasn't going to catch up. Time to hit the brakes, and he immediately pulls off the next exit.

The best part about this - I was in my Focus. :D Is it wrong of me to pick on the lesser 3S's with my winter beater? :D He had one passenger to my two, and for cryin' out loud it's a Focus! Never mind that SVT badge on the back... :suspect2:

You left out the best part. After we slowed down and he got off, we passed a State Trooper sitting on the shoulder with all his lights off

Had that race kept going, we'd have both passed him going triple digits, heading into a construction zone.
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

On the Internet they say, "You never get this! You never get this!" But then one day they all met in Cali and they get this.

...Up until the point my license was taken and I spent a night with ThunderDick in the local jail. Then it would have turned bad for me, and hilarious for all of you.

It's alright that you killed a SOHC. It's like taking the crippled runt of a litter and putting it down before the rest of the litter does a messier job for you.
