Supercharged Blue Devil Corvette to be badged "ZR-1"

Post by Jeff V. »

Dunno how many of you guys have been following this for the last year or so.

GM is going to be releasing a new Corvette that will sit above the Z06 on the food chain. The internal code name was Blue Devil. Several spy photographers have gotten pics of Z06 mules sporting slightly modified body work and the new engine. The biggest coup was when pics of a mule leaked out of a shipping company a few months back.

Power is expected to be 650 or more. The car is also going to have more carbon fiber body panels than the Z06 does, and carbon ceramic brakes. It'll probably have some other goodies, but that stuff hasn't been confirmed yet.

The name for this thing has been rumored to be everything from Stingray to Z08 to SS. SS was the leading candidate up until yesterday, when a few credible sources let it leak that this new car will be called ZR-1, and will be unveiled at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show :)

I want one.

Right now I have a huge smile on my face thinking about driving that insane machine. Long live the Vette!

People will still say it's ghey for being a 'vette. The "regular" Z06 obliterates almost all cars and it's half the price, yet you still see so much negative press about it.

Yeah. They want it to have a Ferrari level interior and still be ~$70k.

The new stitched leather dash goes a long way towards fixing that little gripe though, even if it is part of a $4000 option package.

They also upgraded the steering considerably in the 08. My only hope at this point is the ZR1 comes with a proper sport seat option, and enough body differences between the Z06 that you can tell the difference from 50 yards away.

On the Internet they say, "You never get this! You never get this!" But then one day they all met in Cali and they get this.

These three are kind of interesting too. I hope the clear bubbled hood doesn't survive to production.

Ya...that would be a really bad idea to keep that, unless it was a special option or something.

That thing is going to completly dominate anything on the road, but personally I cant wait to see what ignorant negative reviews it gets.

I dunno about that. The Z06 has gotten rave reviews since it came out. Even in Europe, where they're about as anti-Chevy as you can get. That's not to say there aren't complaints, but as a whole, the Z is widely regarded to be the best performance bang for the buck on the road today.

Depending on the price point, I see no reason why the ZR1 can't continue that.

ZR-1 :leghump:

The european's may bash it like the did the C6 Z06 on Top Gear. They always say great performance blah blah but cheaply made. There's always a "but" with those folks. I personally think corvettes over the years have not been given the credit they deserve from "over seas".

I probably should have been a little more clear w/ that last statment :D The Top Gear review is the best example of what I was trying to get across. Even though it got great reviews the others cars were made to seem superior. (meant to finish typing before I posted)
