jack, no shit, really?
Not sure if you know the background on that guy, but heres a story for ya...............

That guy lives in south america, venuzuala i think, he buys a 91 vr4 from a dealer in new england and has it shipped to him. One of the first things he does is grabs a buddy, they don helmets and video camera, and hit the highway to see how fast the car is. during this video they reach 180 on the speedo several times while cranking def leapord with the windows open and negotiating traffic. about 15-20 min. into the run, a veggie truck changes lanes in front of them and all hell breaks loose and the camera goes to static.

When the camera comes back on the car is on its top on the side of the road. camera pans to driver who is so worked up he cant talk without spitting. camera pans over to the mark on the road that is so long you cant see where it starts.

car gets shipped back to new england where a mitsu club member videotapes the damages. car is totaled with 1000miles on the odo. cameraman is heartbroken.

Local NE shop buys car. (i think they are known as IMP now) Owner of hypertech where i was working at the time is buddies with owner of IMP, hypertech owner buys engine and all 4 corners from that car to use rebuilding a wrecked 91 vr4 with 40k on it. Hypertech owner sits on car and parts for several years before deciding he doesnt want to deal with it. I buy car and parts. I use all the suspension for the the wrecked car and sell the motor to bob fontana.

I get the car finished in ~98 and have a pristine 91 vr4 with 40k on the motor/body, and 1k on the suspension.
This is that car

Guy from south america buys another vr4 and it is soon featured in turbo magazine with RWD and a porshe tranny

I have no idea what happened to that videotape
came across that while searching for some info.

actually, anyone know a good guess for a TT longblock's weight?

Found this on 3si from a guy that posted,

The jspec engines (without tranny) that I ship are usually around 550lbs +/- 20lbs including turbos, plenum, etc.

In case your wondering, the AWD tranny weighs an extra 125lbs or so, the NA 5spd is about 90lbs, and the NA ATX is about 180lbs (without torque converter).

Was just trying to help :(

Seen the thread before. Never saw pics of the car though, but there were actually a few threads on it.

For a while, I was researching if a rear mount was possible in our cars, and what would be needed. I got really excited by the rear mount integra on the internet. I thought for a while that I may attempt this type of project - even had an idea to get around the transmission problem. But eventually reality set in. I don't have the time, welding ability, or knowledge on structural reinforcement to attempt this by myself. But I guess if someone in the DC area ever wants to try this...

rear-mount? how else are you going to mount RWD? ;)
If you mean the engine was mounted in the back, it wasn't. The engine was turned 90 degrees in the engine bay and mated up with a Porsche Tranny

There are a few magazine pictures of that car floating around somewhere.

If that's the case, I am thinking about the wrong car then. There was someone car that used a porsche tranny from a mid-engine car to create a rear-engine 3000GT. Defintely wasn't from the states, but I can't say exactly where he was. I thought that was the car he was referring to.
