I love my car... it doesnt love me

Post by EvilNCarnate »

So today I start my baby up, drive to work and get to the office and it stalls... SHIT. So I go out at lunch and notice its stalling at idle, idle is erratic and bouncing up and down. Turn the AC off and it balances out, bounces occasionally, but doesnt dip too low. I had an issue with the IAC being pretty dirty and cleaned it once, checked the resitance and they were near the bottom of the range. I am guessing the IAC has given up and is on its way to hell. So looks like I will be adding an IAC to my list of parts.

SO....
Maintenance stuff

IAC
VSS
Flexalite Fans (Blue)

Tighten your throttle cable ever so slightly so your car idles steady at ~ 900rpms. This is a good temp fix till you get a new ISC.

When I had my ECU rebuilt, they were very insistant about the IAC being within spec. They said an IAC with improper resistance can cause an ECU failure.
I had just installed a new one and it was within spec. Were they telling the truth?

Yes, a short in the ISC will overload one of the drivers on the board and burn it out (literally).

That's what they said, that it would make the board unrepairable.

What about the situation Evil is talking about? Would that cause any serious damage to the ECU?

If that driver was overloaded, the car wouldn't run.

Well this morning it gave me some serious shit... I started up, was driving down the road and it began bucking and jumping literally throwing my ass around. I am ordering the IAC tonight, I'll be off until Thursday so it can wait for parts and I may have to drive 1 or 2 days more at most.

My car does love me... I am just stupid. I figured the IAC/ISC was shot. I found my datalogger and logged it and the numbers were up around 100+ so I figured it was shot. Today I went outside to adjust the throttle cable to keep the idle up just in case I had to drive her and noticed the filter had come off and the MAS was loose and the honeycomb was messed up. I took out the center of the honeycomb in the MAS. Hooked everything up normally, adjusted the throttle to normal and she is purring like a kitten again. So I cancelled my order with DSMISC and kicked myself in the ASS.

Sucky part.... Since I had to buy new furniture, long story, I used a chunk of my car budget, since I had to buy an IAC I decided not to get my fuel pump, injectors and controller. I instead bought a new 320gb hard drive, 2gb ram and a 512mb geforce 7300 sli card... only to find I didnt need the IAC and would have still had enough. I guess I will just use that money to tint my windows.
