For the time being as local government employees we're sheltered by a few layers. I don't want to get into it too much because it has such a major impact on my mental health.

I also agree with Frode there's a good chance they won't see any money from the buyout offer for various reasons. It basically amounts to a gift of public funds which is basically illegal on multiple levels. Combined with many twitter employees stating they never got their buyouts either.

Yea that sounds stressful. I have a family member in Sac that's a government employee and they baited him along and then cut him. He was only there less than a year, but it sucks.

So far my job is OK. Wife's job we are not sure at this point still. A lot of funding that supports her position is federal and DEI was really important. So if that goes away there is a lot less she can do and they will have to cut jobs. State is also in hiring freeze and has big budget cuts coming. Was told my job is still OK but we will see. Wdfw will try and find me a different job before cutting if possible. But also we have family potentially in a lot of trouble because they rely on social security and Medicare for everything. No retirement and no savings. And student loans if DOE goes away, who the hell knows. Might lose pslf, save program, etc. Danielle is even thinking about selling her subaru to save that payment and buy an old one. Trying to get ahead of everything before it's too late.

Did the 120k mile service today, basically spark plugs, cabin filter, air filter, and oil change. It looks like we have the dreaded cam carrier leak at the front driver's side spark plug tube. It's an engine out service, for now I'm not going to worry about it too much. Depending on how long we end up keeping for I'll eventually pull the engine and reseal it.

Yeah it's an engine out service, there's no reasonable way to do it in the car. The frame rails are just too close to the cam covers.

nearly everything on a subaru past valve cover gaskets is an engine out service. they pretty much fall out though. when i was doing heads on earlier models regularly i could have the engine out and heads on the ground in about 45 minutes.

Yeah I'm not all that thrilled with the way Subaru separated the cam carrier from the head. I'm sure there's some functional or cost cutting manufacturing reason they did it, but it just creates more work and potential leak points. It's a known problem with the FA/FB Subaru engines.

We talked about trading it in this weekend, but even if I pay dealership rates for a reseal the car we were looking at would still be 25k-35k more than the reseal.

I have a buddy locally that started a shop to work on performance cars. In the past 6 or so years he has shifted his focus to working on mostly Subaru's. He knows that is where all the business is because they require a lot more than other vehicles.

truth. they really are maintenance and repair nightmares but the owners love them.

i compare it to the 3S. there are certain flaws that if not addressed will ruin your day, but things just dying through no fault of your own is rare, its usually a lack of maintenance or understanding that causes the issues.

Yeah, though I'd say they're less finicky than a 3S.

The reality is this car has been amazing and reliable for the last nearly 10 years and 120k miles.

funny enough im pretty sure my sti is dead from the oil pump issue, it sits in the year range and it would explain why a stock car with low miles and good maintenance spun a bearing lol.

you lost me at wagon. the only subaru wagons that look good are the levorg and the GR. Legacy isnt ugly but it also isnt attractive.
